I'm right in the middle of listening to 166. I think I'm going to stop and see if I can squeeze this in before Prime starts.

I'm surprised Vangelus didn't mention Jeffrey Combs in this episode.

Gogdog, networks hate continuing story arcs because the more viewers have to follow previous story arcs, the less they tune in. It's simply a matter of less marketshare -- less profit and the advertisers prefer shows that have stand alone episodes. nickelodeon, Disney channel and the hub no doubt are facing this. Considering this there have been quite a few continuing plot threads -- a surprising amount. Breakdown's eye, Ratchet's warming up to kids, jacks mom insertion to plot and resulting arcee conflict. Not to mention the starscream plot.

Any overarching story about the prophecy, with large puzzle pieces moving would require viewers to watch shows in order. Which is not what kids tv networks want --ever. Example is the last airbender series, while a fan fave, it dropped off in ratings due to serialized nature.

Just adding my 2 cents, and the reasoning behind the lack of arcplots.

Love the podcast as always:)  keep it up guyz.

Eeeeeh. Like I said, even a slight namedrop of the prophecy before hand would have been ok. That has nothing to do with complicated, over arcing plots. It has to do with the fact that they didn't know what they ere going to do at the end of the season until they did it.

Do you mean the writers/creators didn't know? Or the characters? I'm sure the writers planned this, and they did plant seeds (dark energon, blood of unicron, megatrons purpose for returning to earth and his search) without spoiling the next EP, I think they wanted to save the surprise for the season finale. And whether as a network mandate or their own choice, many other episodes were designed to be stand alones.

I see your point, but If they hinted at this more it may have made the surprise less awesome IMHO. And the next episode is awesome.

I meant the writers. I could be totally wrong, but I got the impression that they didn't decide on doing the prophecy thing until they started writing the episode.

I'm sure they wanted to do Unicron somehow, I don't doubt that. But all the characters so anxious about the prophecy, just seemed really weird.

Don't get me wrong, like I said, I thought it was a good episode. But for all the previous callbacks, even the ones you mentioned. having been done reasonably well, I got the impression that it was something they came up with when it came time to write the ep.

And again, like I said, in a short while, I probably wont even care any more. :D

I really shouldn't have watched One Shall Rise before listening to this. Granted
I was already supported the theory of Unicron being the Earth, but it really stinks having foreknowledge about what's going to happen next episode while others speculate about it

As sudden and forced as the whole "Prophecy" thing was, at least it wasn't as bad as the Star Wars prequels which dumped in a prophecy than hadn't heard of in the original trilogy and was never really properly explained in the second.

I really wish TV and Movies would dump the whole "predestination" bit as a way to create drama. Move on to a new plot device, because this one is played out.
