Yah, I'm betting there is a good bit of extra playability in these toys, whether from lost design elements, future retools, or simply secret fun. I'll post pics tomorrow, but there are some really neat ways to store the head guys and a lot of them are weirdly coincidental.

 

I agree he looks pretty damn good to me.

Also we'll be getting an Overlord and surely a Thunderwing out of it too.

On a side note, I wonder if SixShot could get a RID 2001 Megatron/Gigatron retool given we've now got a 'sixformer'.

Why do we even need a Hot Rod figure? He was only in the movie then he's Rodimus from then on in.

I love Rodimus but who is Hot Rod really? I'm not really mad or anything just something I've been thinking about lately.

Probably because everyone remembers him for his 'Becoming the next Prime' arc, which the movie basically revolves around. (Admit it, he was the main character there.) Not to mention, Hot Rod is a cool car, whereas Rodimus Prime is a space winnebago. It shouldn't be surprising that HasTak usually bets on Hot Rod selling toys better than his Prime self. Also, he was actually in some episodes of G1 S3 (And The Headmasters) in his pre-Prime body because both toys were on the shelf at the same time. Not to mention that he plays a major role in IDW, and despite his name having been (Just) Rodimus for years now, he's definitely channeling Hot Rod more. Oh, and most of the fangirls on tumblr tend to prefer his younger self, probably because he's "more dreamy" or some shit.

Except for one of my friends, who has the hots for Rodimus Prime specifically. But hey, she's entitled to her opini-*Brick'd*

EDIT: Yeah, we definitely do need a new Rodimus Prime figure, though. The last one was, what, the Titanium version? Rodimus Prime is definitely overdue. Power of the Primes will probably solve this problem. Here's hoping.

 

Probably because Generations in partially tied to IDW comics who are currently one of the only ongoing media sources based on G1 characters.

Most of the TR releases we're getting are based around ongoing/current media and not the movie/tv from 20 years ago.

 

No, he became Hot Rod again after that in the cartoon. And he was Hot Rod all along in the US Marvel comics, never becoming a Prime, all the way through the G2 series.

I don't think that at all. That's why we're getting a more movie style Hot Rod than IDW style. And most of the Headmasters have little to no part in IDW outside of Chromedome and Brainstorm. Hardhead's already dead in IDW. Mindwipe? Skullcruncher? Weirdwolf? Triggerhappy? All of these are recreating the G1 cast, not IDW. Even Fort Max is completely based on his G1 self, both Hasbro's with Cerebros, and Takara's with Fortress. They halfheartedly added a Max-looking titan to the comics to tie into the toy release, not the other way around; they didn't make the titan figure to represent IDW Max at all.

 

If anything the original headmasters should be more prominent in IDW.
Makes no sense for a new toyline to get so little promotion in the comics.
That is the entire point of the comics: promoting the toyline.
Sure we have Brainstorm, Chromedome and Fort Max. But what about the others?
Mindwipe was wasted, Skullcruncher bring a billionaire could play a much bigger part than is the case, no Weirdwolf or Highbrow. Hardhead is dead offcourse,but if Sentinel Prime can be resurected that is no excuse.
And Triggerhappy and Doublecross would be amazingcadditiona to the IDW roster.
Happy would learn the little protoforms how to be Cool and Doublecross would be roughing it up in the bush with the other Monstercons
