My favorite part is right before Optimus's multiple-hit combo against Megatron: Megatron tries to kick Optimus, and Optimus responds not by dodging the kick or catching it, but by stabbing it. This is an Optimus who does not fight fair.
It's details like that that make it absolutely criminal that both the first movie and RotF lost their VFX Oscars to much more undeserving movies. The Transformers had weight. They had momentum. The camera work actually reflected their mass (while the shakey cam makes some of the fights hard to follow, on the other hand, it totally sells their weight). Light reflected off them realistically. They were absolutely, totally convincing. Never once did they look like a mere special effect. They were there. Instead, the VFX team lost to unconvincing CG polar bears, and then some run-of-the-mill particle physics.
Yeah, like the Uruk-hai with a guitar at Helms Deep. Something you spot years later and freak out about.
my fav bit is when optimus punches megs in the chest megs goes down optimus "helps" him up by stabbing him with the hook in the shoulder and lifting him optimus pulls him up with his hand optimus punches megs with his fist punches again to knock him back it adds that human element to the fighting style and look when optimus punches megs you can see energon from his mouth EDIT: woah when he punched megs he went flying aswell
Actually I think what happened was Megatron went to kick optimus, where optimus then stabs him in the shin. Standing on his right, Optimus stabs him in the side and then in the shoulder. Optimus is then lifting his left arm to punch him when megatron looks up, then gets the first punch with the left hook then Optimus grabbed his right hand, and turned his arm left to slam megs in the face again. It's still Fucking awesome how optimus put the beat down on them without "god modding."
I feel ripped off. I got my Blu-Ray edition from Wal Mart and never got the IMAX footage. I would love to see it all in Blu-ray HD.
It's not too fast to figure out what's going on. There are little details in there that reward multiple viewings but you don't really need to see all to be able to follow the line of action. And I can't see every element on the robots while they are moving but I have no trouble telling a back from a head from a arm. Or telling the different robots from one another for that matter. When was the camera ever too shaky? Actually when was the camera shaky?
I agree, the camera was never shakey, and teh fight moves fast because it's a fight. It feels fast, visceral, violent. Slowing it down would just lessen the experience.
