I know I’m late to the convo, but I have to agree with @Fenrys abt character likeness. If memory serves, Que was supposed to look more like Jackie, head wise, but some idiot decided to make him more Einstein like. But at least they changed his name to something other Wheeljack.

We all know that we were all shocked abt Prime’s new look in AOE, but we all (I think) came to accept it bcs he still looked like Prime in the head, and still had those Prime colors.

As far as Ironhide and Ratchet, their G1 versions were plain, and lame.. in both modes. So we all (again, I think) came to accept their more robust and badass appearance in the films, cuz they were… u know… badass lol.

Jazz still had his visor and the wheels by the feet. A Volkswagen Beetle wld’ve looked ridiculous next to all those badass vehicles next to him (Bee), but he still had the yellow thing going for him.

The point that I’m making is that almost every character has had something attaching them back to their origin.

My biggest issue with Jackie is the fact that he was who we’ve all known him to be in the BBM, but now he’s suddenly a nerd for some reason. I think that’s something that shld be explained in the film, and that it doesn’t just get neverminded.

 

It sounds more like you’re saying it’s on a case by case basis, which I agree with. Obviously if what they do is worse then that’s bad, but if it’s better or good in a different way then it’s good. Seems like everyone just has a line they don’t want the designs to cross when it comes to what they’re willing to accept, which was kinda what I was saying.

 

Yea, I guess that’s what I’m saying lol. Bayverse gave all the characters badass alt modes and robot modes. But in the new movie, as far as I can tell, Jackie was the only one that they went backwards on.

I can understand if they cldn’t get the licensing for the alt mode, but at least give him another cool alt mode, and AT LEAST the Wheeljack ears.. hell, I honestly wld’ve been ok with just the ears, and no glasses lol.

This for me. I totally get why he’s not a Lancia also a repair van? That fits Wheeljack so well.

For me even besides loving G1 WJ’s design and head, it’s the consistency. Like Arcee, Bee and Prime look like a continuation of their BBM designs head wise, WJ is therefore the weird out one out. I’d feel the same way if Ironhide, Bee and Ratchet all of the sudden looked like their G1 designs in ROTF. So it’s not a G1 purist thing with me.

Looking forward to that.

They should've used a faux chest for the SS, because the Mainline one looks good.

this figure goes so hard, i can't wait to get him

 

I'll be buying both. Mirage's design has grown on me plenty thanks to the concept art. Helps that he turns into my 2nd favourite Porsche model . I think both toys work do different things well.
