I want a faceplate as much as anyone, but you have to admit the Japanese headmaster toon is probably the most prominent version of the character in its history... just not the one usa fans who don't like to read subtitles want.

But it's not like it'd require a whole new sculpt or repaint. It's a minor piece that makes a major difference.

Agree. The lack of faceplate means huge sales drop for this figure.

Okay if that's the case why are the other two (Quadruple U & Not Chromedome) not done in their Headmasters 'toon decos.

Awesome figure from the pics so far. Shame the thread will be forever dominated by people buthurt about something as minor as a faceplate.

My sentiments exactly. A fresh and creative transformation trumped by a fucking mouth? Seriously? The fandom amazes me sometimes....

Like, fine, he doesn't look like the Brainstorm a lot of people know. Okay I get that. I really do.

But you are presented with an amazing figure with a transformation that borders on engineering genius, and that honestly doesn't even look bad, and so many would pass it just for that? Can't you just... give him some other name and pretend he's not Brainstorm? Brainstorm's cousin or whatever? You could call him something like... say.... Smart Robin?

Like I'd get if the faceplate is the last in a bunch of things one doesn't like about the toy, but all the people going "Gosh. No faceplate. I was so into it. But this is a deal breaker." Well just imagine him as someone else sharing Brainstorm's body mold the way so many other TFs do. Problem solved?

You are right to a degree but I don't see why fans feeling a characterization miss being a deal killer is so wrong. If you love the figure that's great but everyone is entitled to their opinion. TFC get's a far harder time around here.

    It just looks so... boring.

Nothing about it looks unique or memorable. It's just a plain robot with a generic body

Good point but it's a $75 dollar figure. I will bitch and still buy it but I imagine their are plenty of people who will pass on a figure that has no connection to them. Just look at the Star Saber MP outrage and he actually exists unlike Smart Robin.

I still remember the tide of fan-stink over the first run of Energon Optimus having an open faceplate, since Optimus Prime isn't supposed to have a visible mouth. That is of course setting aside the other wrong opinions people had and continue to hold about that toy. But the point remains some characters are a specific kind of appearance to people, and the desire for that will always be valid regardless of the circumstance.

So you know what? Agree to disagree. I'm sincerely happy for everyone whose enjoyment of the figure will not be impacted by what sort of face there is, while I sympathize with those who identify the character and design with a mask and feel let down. I'm keeping my preorder, but I don't think any poorer of the people who are deciding to let it go since it is a pretty damn expensive thing and it's not unreasonable to expect it to be as close to a given view of perfection as possible.
