This. I've read enough about the way scripts develop in Hollywood to know it's NEVER this easy.

I think this sums up my feelings quite well.
I look forward to what might come out of this, I know we aren't going to have 12 movies directly, not yet at least.
Whatever we get though I'll give it a fair chance like anything else, and part of me will still most likely love it.

Then it can be a reboot in all but name. I simply don't see much in the way of opportunity when so many iconic Transformers have been brutally killed. Again, though, with some clever handwaving and non-rebooting, this could be averted and we could have a more iconic cast and representation.

As an aside, I'll be the first to say I do not consider these films coherent or an accurate representation of the Transformers mythology, but I do respect how much money they've made, and how that has given us more Generations toys and awesome cartoons.

I simply believe we'll need some creative story treatments to get us to a workable franchise with iconic, steady characters and development. A TFCU can only work if it has strong characters and convincing villains. Of which most are dead.

Hey everyone, how about we GIVE THEM A FRIKKIN CHANCE, huh? They haven't even given a hint of the stories, and all I see is people shooting everyone down. I understand you have an opinion, but wait until you know more about the subject, dammit. Jeez

It is very misleading. It pretty much says 12 different scripts are going to be made before they pick which one will become TF5.

I am hoping one of these screenplays is at least good or great.

Potential new Transformers Universe films? Uuuh. OK.

But really it'd be awesom if they used this opportunity to merge Transformers, GIJoe and MASK into one great big Universe behemoth.

Come on Hasbro. You know you want to.

I wonder if there's been any chat between this writing team, or specifically Goldsman, and the IDW comic teams.

They've done a mostly good job of intelligent world and character building over the last decade or so. There's plenty of quality story telling to cull from that universe (and even Dreamwave before it).

That's what's made Marvel so much money. Taking the best of the best from their vast library of content.

And as ever, I wish they'd give Bay the boot, but at least it seems like they're trying to remove him from the screenwriting aspect.

Maybe this will allow them to film at similar pace to Marvel studios, by having longer story lines ready to go, vice developing each one based on reception and then trying to think up a plot to build from.

To everyone who wanted Krueger gone, this is as good as you could possibly get as a replacement.

True, that's been obvious since the first movie, but even some of those people might like movies with better script writing, character development and dialogue.

I don't see these movies from the viewpoint of an investor, but as a long-time TF fan with a belief in the potential of the franchise. I've seen the kind of care and attention that's been taken by the writers for the TF comics and TV series, but when it comes to the movies, the writing comes across as secondary and not particularly important compared to the spectacle. It's just there to take us from one explosion to the next.

I suppose what really bothered me was not that writers for the TF movies couldn't write better scripts, it's that they didn't seem to consider it worth the effort. You don't want that kind of attitude from people working on a Cinematic Universe.

The Transformers movie franchise had the potential to rival Marvel and (original) Star Wars and not just as a moneymaker.
