Seeing that Megatron routinely beat Overlord´s face several times and he and Prime are evenly matched.. How well would Optimus fare against Overlord?

 

Not well.

Megatron beat up Overlord multiple times, then modded him into a "Super Warrior."

After Black Shadow was modded, Prime, Magnus, and a thousand other Autobots couldn't stop him.

Narratively he'd probably pull something out of his hat though.

 

Well, now. That would be an interesting fight. For once, Overlord would have to face someone who was as strong or stronger than him, and unlike Megatron, Optimus wouldn't care about killing him. Throw in some crazy Orion Pax shenanigans under the direction of James Roberts, and it would be epic.

 

Optimus did held his own against Sixshot tho.

 

Overlord was infected with the Achilles virus, so he couldn't pinpoint a weakness in Megs previously. That was never the case with Optimus, should their paths cross.

Optimus (and a group of Autobots) couldn't contain Black Shadow. However, Optimus held his own for a little while with Sixshot.

I forget, has Prime had a true no holds barred protracted slugfest with anyone in the IDWverse that we've actually seen and not had referenced? The closest I can think of is when Megs blew a hole in Optimus during one of the -ations minis.

Then there´s the flashback of Optimus and Megs fights during the Chaos event buildup.

 

Yeah but they were interrupted. It isn't entirely clear whether Optimus can even seriously damage Sixshot with the firepower he has on him.

Probably the most impressive thing Optimus did in this continuity was go one-on-one with Thunderwing, but he had advance knowledge that Thunderwing was about to run out of power. Thunderwing didn't really get a hit on him, OP just blasted him back till he petered out.

I will say that if any single Autobot has a chance, with no plot devices, superweapons, or spaceships allowed, it's Optimus.

 

Omega? Metroplex?

 

At the very least, yeah I think Optimus could hang tough for a bit, one on one. I don't think it'd be Bane vs Batman, Round 1 from Dark Knight Rises or some other sad, one-sided ass-whipping.

 

It's worth noting that Furman said Optimus would have beaten Sixshot had they kept fighting.

 

Optimus has a tendency to drop "Till All are One" from time to time, too.

 

Depends on what the writer wants. I think Prime being Prime, a good writer could make it believable for him to win - even if Overlord has more raw power.

 

A good writer would also realize that sometimes the good guy needs to LOSE to gain perspective.

I see Optimus losing the first round, but not quite an entirely one-sided beatdown. Probably take as good as he gets, but Overlord is slightly better. Optimus would take what he's seen and learned from the fight, devise a new strategy, and actually win their second battle.

Also, knowing Optimus, he would watch and read the reports of thsoe who've fought Overlord and use that to help influence his strategy in beating him.

But, all in all, I see Optimus winning at the ultimate end, not just due to power, but due to having superior strategy. At least, if done properly.

 

Can't we just watch the Masterforce cartoons?

 

I would like to see Sky-garry go toe to toe with Overlord. Thinking of the Autobots version of a .1%, I came up with him and Greatshot. I think ops would hang for a minute or two with Overlord though not to log after that. Overlord is a force of nature.

 

That's a very different version of Overlord, and Ginrai is technically not Optimus (let alone the general G1 version IDW uses), so I don't see how that applies at all.

 

Fine then, Jet + Tank > Truck.

Overlord would beat Optimus in a straight fight. Prime would need a co-ordinated team, or a strong stategic advantage.

 

Prime would have rocked him in his face.

But in all seriousness I'd have to give the fight to Overlord. I honestly do not see Optimus as having any kind of advantage that could take out Overlord. Sure, he's got a gun, but Overlord was reduced to a flaming skeleton and was still kicking. After getting his eye shot out with Impactor's harpoon. How can Optimus top that?
