Sorry guys, I meant a metaphorical you and I was on my phone posting while have a spelling brain fart for metaphorical.

LOL, you weren't here for all those wonderful twilight threads here where many many fucks were given. But that specific franchise doesn't matter, what would matter is that we as fanbase do say "oh, it's Transformers, who cares?" or "It's only three million, they were close enough" or "haters gonna find something to hate." We're gonna defend and dismiss because we love the brand, but if it were anything else- especially a franchise that a primary male fandom hates- I guarantee the overall mood of the thread wouldn't be so dismissive.

Defensive fanboy sarcasm aside, yeah, this type of thing kind does matter. When a company issues press releases and stockholder statements for a publicly traded company, this kind of shit could have a dramatic impact. Not just on the value of the stock, but on the reputation of the company and willingness of investors to buy/trade that stock. It may be only three million dollars, but if they'd lied about this one thing, it begs the question how often they've manipulated
    such findings in the past.

Because psychologically there's a big difference between 97 and 100. To cross that 3-digit threshold does carry esteem and bragging rights. It's "only $3 mil" in this context, but it's an important 3 mil.

For comparison, getting a 97% on a test is cool, and it's still an A in the gradebook, but getting 100% is sweeter and will likely result in a greater degree of admiration and more kudos.

In the books, the impact is virtually the same, but the psychological weight of crossing that $100 mil threshold matters -- that's why it's worth fudging the truth (if that's indeed what they did).

If they truly fudged the numbers, I would assume it would be about being #first - aka TF4 being the first movie this year to open at or above $100 mil.

What sounds better for a headline - "Transformers 4 is the first movie of 2014 to open above $100 million!", or "Transformers 4 is among other blockbusters this summer to be unable to crack the $100 million opening mark!" ?

Yeah. That's why they'd fudge the numbers, even though it's a dumb ass thing to do and the difference isn't much overall.

I would personally love to know exactly where Deadline is getting its numbers from. Looking at their box office chart along the right side of their page, it's Rentrak. Well, I just went on Rentrak and it's reporting that the $100,038,390 million figure is accurate as a final gross for the weekend. So, what inside sources do Deadline have that no one else seems to have, I wonder? Deadline can't even give us an exact "real" figure, only an estimated $97.5 - $98 million.

The bastards. Wonder how many Hollywood types spent their whole day pining over this.

Still didn't top Aquaman's opening weekend, and that's all that really matters.

You know, I might agree there. I enjoyed the movie, it had its problems, but it seems like as soon as sales figures came out, be it 97 or 100 million or whatever, critics were pissed it was making money and started retaliating with one scathing article after another. Not even reviews, but ridiculous articles like "The worst one liners in Transformers Age of Extinction."

Really, internet writers? I know they are also trying to jump on the bandwagon and get clicks, but com'on!

Either way, glad it's making money.

that's one fucked up company if they are basing layoffs on the box office results of one movie for one weekend....

Most places layoff employees if they are not making $$$...not based on the box office results for one movie for one weekend.

That's as bizarre and stupid as the HR dept of a company saying if someone wears a blue tie instead of red...he's outta here.

If so meaningless, why lie about it?

Because they know the domestic trend is down and they'd do anything to make themselves believe otherwise. Despite the global gross it will be hard to sell executives and producers on a 2nd straight declining attendance.

Not to mention it displays the ethics of the studio holding our beloved property hostage.

    ...Uh huh. I don't think that's true.

Paramount's not a god, and this isn't a show of him bleeding.

    Why is this:

    1) Something to brag about?

    2) Lock worthy. With the exception of a few people, it's pretty civil discussion.

As for the thread, so many sig worthy posts here.
