A reboot for an absolutely boring franchise? Why?

I thought the movies were charming, but I absolutely hated that Reed was turned into such a weak wuss.

How lame. Why do we need a reboot? There was nothing wrong with the previous two movies, and I was looking forward to a third with this cast. :thumbdown

Well, even before this news we were pretty sure that we were not getting a third movie anyway.

the only thing i dont like about reboots (especially this one) is that it'll be somewhat similar to what has already been done.

we'll be seeing the group of people going into space, get powers, most likely meet and battle Doctor Doom, etc etc etc

aint too much you can do for a rebooted movie...as i dont see them starting from a point where they already got their powers nor not fighting Doom as the first movie.

Really? I never kept up with the box office figures, but did the second Fantastic Four movie bomb that badly?

I didnt like the F4 movies that much. Silver surfer was a punk, he didnt do shit. Galacticus was ass. (I pray they dont make Unicron like that in TF3) Dr. Doom was weak. So a reboot is good

Technically, the movie was still a success in the box office, but made less money than the first one.

I liked the first two films (not great, but charming in their own right) so I'm not exactly jumping up and down at a reboot; I wouldn't mind them recasting Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman though. It has little to do with acting ability (neither was exactly Oscar material in either role, certainly) but the on-screen age disparity creeped me out. I kept waiting for that guy from To Catch a Predator to pop up whenever Reed Richards got close to Susan Storm. I know why someone like Jessica Alba would get cast in that role, but I wouldn't mind seeing an Invisible Woman that's a little older and not someone who looks like they just got out of high school.

Ioan Gruffudd is 35 and Jessica Alba is 28 (so 31 and 24 in the first movie). Doesn't seem like a big difference.

I'm not really sure what to think.

The first movie was a little trite, and the second movie was much better but still had issues.
The main problem for me is that Dr. Doom is like the core bad guy in the Marvel Universe and the writer's could do nothing with him.

He was pretty much a placeholder in the first film, and he actually had some Doom like qualities in the second.
I think they were headed in the right direction.

    Seriously!
I know people who are married that have a further age gap than that.

This makes me sad. I really enjoyed the first two. Chris Evans was perfect for Torch.

Oh I wasn't thinking about the actual actors' ages (I had no idea how old Ioan Gruffud was but I assumed he was probably younger than what Reed Richards is supposed to be since I doubted he's naturally greying already); I was reacting to their appearance on-screen; maybe I'm focusing too much on the grey they put in Ioan Gruffud's hair (I'm familiar with Julian McMahon and Michael Chiklis via Nip/Tuck and The Shield, where they played 40-year olds, as another reference point I was using for Reed Richards) it appeared to be a ten-year plus age gap to me. Age can be just a number I know...but late 30-early 40ish men dating a woman who, to me, looked like she could pass for a freshman in high school was a little creepy.

Ok, just keep Alba, Evans, and Chicklas. But, please lose the horrible actors as Doom and Richards
