So I just unboxed some stuff...I started out opening a few generations figures and was a little bit disheartned by the fact that I'd probably wind up tossing the packaging. Not that the cardbacks were too spectacular to begin with, but still. Anyway, I went through the motions, just opening and tossing the packaging, before I moved on to some encore & G1 stuff... And that's when it happened, the whole unboxing experience of G1/encore toys really took me back - the art, the styrofoam inserts, the whole way that accessories, inserts and instructions are presented...but what really took me back was the smell. The combination of plastic, rubber tires & a faint hint of the glue from the stickers made me remember really clearly when I was sitting in bed having my sixth birthday opening the very same toy (ratchet). I don't know if you guys have had things trigger your memory like that when it comes to TF, but if you have then please share.
Looking at my Beast Wars figures reminds me of many moments as a kid. It was such a golden time back then. Back before the Bumblebee army invaded stores and back when Hasbro was trying new stuff and many cool looking alt modes. I want a time machine.
Beast Wars Inferno. Even if he isn't the one I had back in '98, He is still chief among my Insecticons (second only to a waspinator I don't yet have)
transforming any g1 i had as a kid, but especially stickering up any of them (reprolabels, reissues, etc)
Something about the clear plastic on G1 Wheeljack and the G1 Dinobots really hits me in the nostalgia-node of my brain. I think I was sort of fascinated with that dusky, smoke-colored clear plastic as a kid (especially the way the Dinobot s contained chromed mechanical parts visible under them). When I got hold of a vintage Wheeljack, attaching those little clear wings sent a whole bunch of childhood memories flooding back to me. Now you're just trying to make us feel old, aren't you?
