Not sure how I feel about this. Dark Crystal holds a special place in my heart. But I'm being optimistic about it. http://henson.com/company/20060201.html
I heard about this a while ago. I'm not sure what to think at this point. Though, Genndy Tartakovsky does seem like a good choice for it. If it does turn out to be a good movie I will be very excited as I too love the original.
I'll say what I said when I first heard this news. "Shit of an ass, it's Genndy Tartakovsky! This movie will flip out!"
GT's involvement offers hope. He's a geek at heart, and I think understands that a kids film doesn't need to be warm and fuzzy. If it fails, the vast distance between the original and the sequel should help keep the original from being tainted (ala Carrie vs Carrie 2).
The Dark Crystal and the Labryth were the two movies that everytime there was a sequal to a good movie I always said, "Well at least they aren't making those sequals." I can't say that anymore...Sequals are parasites. But the idea of it sounds cool. I'm worried they'll do something stupid that will end up screwing up the whole film.
The original was great, and Tartakovsky has an excellent artistic eye for direction. As much as I would hate to see a sequel to the classic, if anyone can pull off a GOOD sequel, it's Tartakovsky.
