yeah, that's mine only gripe, is that they aren't a little bit more colour coordinated on the leg pieces...

I wouldn't be surprised if Wal-Mart had been pitched the Build King set, perhaps just a packaging swap of the Universe decos, and they rejected it because it had already been a Black Friday item they wound up not having the best success with.

Most Walmart exclusives have been on the lazy-side for some reason, probably to keep costs down ~ they never seem to be in the same league with Target exclusives on the desireability factor
i agree except for the cranes really are pretty week.
new molds for the hands would have gone a long way towards me tracking this down ~ the hands or lack there of were really the worst thing about the enrgon combiners (aside from redeco limbs :p )

It was announced back in Botcon 06.

This set doesn't look that bad ... but I already own the figures. As I said on the previous thread, I may just buy it on an impulse.

I'll be getting these the same reason I got the universe build king repaint and the micromaster repaint...which is to make up for the fact that back in the 1980s my original contructicon set got thrown out.:cry

It look like I'll end up getting every contructicon repaint EXCEPT for the real thing...unless of course they reissue them or I'm crazy enough to spend $200+ on an original giftset.

I don't own the Energon version, so I will probably pick this up. It's really not so bad. If this is the only Classics Devastator we'll get, well, so be it. I just wish it weren't a Walmart exclusive. The nearest Walmart to me is a 45-minute drive and a $4 bridge toll away.

EDIT: Defensor, it probably wouldn't cost you $200+ to get an original Devastator. Well, unless you're shooting for a MIB set, I guess. But I see complete, good condition Devastator sets going on eBay all the time for under a hundred bucks.

How does this guy get all the prototypes and stuff not released yet, or is everything out already over in China?

It's not out in China or anywhere else yet. This guy gets stuff early, and it's suspected to be gray or black market goods. I'm not 100%, I just like the pretty toy pictures.

<3 you guys for recapping the entire discussion on this back within the first page. :lol

I'm really happy we're finally getting an Energon Combiner group as a giftset.

Eh, I like it because it's a gift set, but I have two sets of this guy already...the US version from Energon and the Japanese TRU exclusive giftset of buildron. When I see it, and I am sure I will, I'll pry get it if the price is right. What is retail? $19.99 or more?

Still haven't made up my mind on this one.

On the one hand, it's likely the closest thing we'll get to a Classics gestalt, it's my favorite of the three Energon gestalts anyway, and I really want something to balance out my outnumbered Classics Decepticons.

On the other hand, I already have Energon C. Max and I'm not sure I want and/or need a repaint of it (especially since Scavenger isn't very heavily repainted from Steamhammer). Also, I'd need to move my Classics, as the shelf they're on now isn't tall enough for Devastator.

And I should note that I would still totally buy a repaint of Superion Maximus in G1 Aerialbot colors.

I'm actually looking forward to this set. I wasn't able to ever complete any of the energon combiners due the lamo stores around here.

All these individual molds are incredible...but the combined mode is the weakest of the three Energon combiners IMO. Plus, the colors aren't drastically different from the original that I've had for a year and a half. Easy pass unfortunately:(
