I guess the difference in quality is much more than only the plastic's sheen? A friend here in Australia also bought from the same ebay seller. His was also flimsy and loose compared to the real deal. And the instruction manual was stapled wrongly with the pages out of order.

FansProject made a lot of City Commanders, as at one point, BBTS stated there were more then 2000 pieces being made. There was at least four months of time to save money and preorder it, before the October 2008 release. They didn't sell out until maybe 2-3 weeks after retailers had them in hand. The current demand is from people who either missed out either because of the original price or didn't know about it.
