Title says it all really. Been trying to find a fun game with a shape shifting mechanic, potentially used for stealth or something like that. Closest I've been able to find is Prototype and Prototype 2, but I've always heard those games weren't that great. Kind of surprised this isn't a mechanic that's explored more in games.
Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but I'd recommend Styx (both games) and Dishonored (both games).
Shantae has a few shapeshifting spells in her games to get past areas and puzzles. Not sure if that counts tho. (Cute monkey form tho) There's also an indie game called "Mable and the wood" where you're a resurrected child with an oversized sword that you can only use by turning into a fairy and calling the sword to you thor-styled. Depending on the path you go, you could also get some more forms like a spider or falcon.
If it does count, then there’s other shapeshifting platformers like Kid Chameleon on Genesis. Possibly Little Samson on NES too, but that’s a bit different since while you can switch forms at will, it’s not done on the fly, but by pausing and selecting another form.
