TBQH I\'ve experimented with using various systems to run TF adventures since... the early 1990s, let\'s say.

It\'ll be interesting to see what a semi-dedicated system will look like. Resolution mechanics are what make RPGs work, and I\'m very curious as to how this system does the \"each level of an attribute gives you a bigger die to roll... but any die can crit\" so a d4 is in some ways maybe as useful as a d8 - the d8 is more likely to get you over the hump, but has half the odds of hitting a crit.

It could be FATE-level elegant or it could be a hot mess of dice pools like Shadowrun.

Give it a few months, a Deception (and probably Cobra) source book will come out. I mean, everybody in tabletop knows that playing the hero is great and all, but sometimes you just wanna be EVIL.

And there's money to be had in that.

Yeah, I've been wanting to get into TTRPGs since 2020, but haven't gotten the chance. I hope I get in so I can play the TFTTRPG(that's a mouthful)

Playing the RPG would be cool but out of every group of Roleplayers I've been a part of I don't think any of them would pull this off well. If you don't have the right group of friends/players they just don't work or if, like me, you just don't have the skill or chops when interacting with other humans even when you're not pretending to be someone else, it just comes off cheesy and weird.

you don't have to personally act out what your character does, you can simply speak about them in the third person. say what they do, how they react to things, etc

getting into character can be fun for some but it's not necessary to do so in order to play the game

This isn't LARP. You tell people what your character does, like a story.

My wife and I are waiting for our kids to be old enough to play TTRPGs, since our old group is gone.

All the groups I've ever been in role play their characters. Are you saying that when you guys interact with an npc you just say something like: "I ask the peasant if he saw the thief run this way?

We always just ran up and in character said some like: "You there, did you see a man run this way?" And the dm would respond in turn. Is that unusual?

Both options are valid. I rarely see experienced role-players play in 3rd person, but I always tell newcomers that this is an option if it makes them more comfortable instead of acting out.

But I absolutely draw the line at doing voices, no Scottish dwarves allowed at my table.

There are loads of Discord servers out there for RPGs, online play has grown in popularity due to the pandemic.

I'm really excited to see how this TTRPG turns out! I've got some buddies on discord who seem like they would get a kick out of this, so I can't wait to get to mess with this system with them! I particularly like the idea of how modular it is. Could be fun to do something like "Tacticool" Power Rangers by mixing Power Rangers and GI Joe, or stating out some TFs that turn into various Joe Vehicles. Not to mention a Combiner vs a Mega Zord. Though, definitely playing it straight before I start messing with anything too much.

Edit/afterthought: I hope this means we'll be getting miniatures too. I would honestly be so down to batch-paint some vehicons. It'd be cool to get generic adventurer/npc/general use-type pieces as well

that isn't unusual, no. a lot of people like to do it. but it's not needed. you don't need to do theatre to roleplay, you just need to think about how your character would respond according to their temperament and worldview. if you're playing Nold Gugget the dwarven warrior you don't have to come up with a voice and get into character like an actor or wrestler would, you can just say "Nold does so and so". taking a third person view of your character is just fine. it's more relaxed.

I love TTRPGs, so this sounds up my alley. A few months ago, I went deep into fanmade Transformers TTRPGs, but most of them feel distinctly... well, fan-made, and extremely clunky at best. I'm keen on this, and it at least sounds more interesting than the regular d20 system used by D&D 5E, which is what I was afraid we'd get with Power Rangers (I didn't even know we were getting a Transformers TTRPG!). IF the combat is more roleplay-focused, I'm all for that, because I've always found the more tactical combat of DD&D 5E bloated and boring, and prefer floatier, more lax combat like in Vampire: The Masquerade.

I'd love to do a post-war campaign with a mix of Autobots and Decepticons in space. Or one set on modern day Earth with more focus on the "robots in disguise" angle. Man, this already has me excited!

Also, I love that Chromia is on the cover and is steadily becoming one of the go-to female Transformers for group shots :)

OMG. THIS. It's frustrating but at the same time, it's wonderful and often hilarious. It is also a very good lesson on the amount of actual control you can ever have over other people.

With or without a sourcebook, you should still be able to wing it. The differences between Autobots and Decepticons are mostly differences in how they think and what they do, not what they are able to do or what technology is available to them.

Or maybe you just want to be a brave revolutionary bringing down an oppressive theocracy and a functionist, casteist system.

Cheesy and weird can be fun. In order to do well at anything you have to be willing to fail at it some.

I doubt you're going to be any more ridiculous or silly than some of my players have been, in the game I currently run on Discord, an OC decided that she wanted to run into a human town and buy milk in order to make an "energon milk shake" and she didn't even think to use a holo-avatar. Also she took Rumble and Frenzy along.

Believe me, hilarity ensued, the autobot players were laughing too hard to bother trying to stop this insanity.

Either way is acceptable. You can also play tabletop or table top style RPGs online, where you write out what your character does.

    rpexcerpt.png

I realised I could post this because with the Discord bot that substitutes character names for real people names you'd have no idea who these people are, but if you look at this you can see that some people are just talking in character, some people describe their actions in detail, and some people just say the minimum amount needed to get the point across. All of these things are OK both online and in person RP.

I played several games in a group for the better part of 4 years but unfortunately it all fell apart. I had a couple characters I played well but I usually sound ridiculous, lol. As for that last style of roleplaying, I used to do that quite a bit in the early 2000's on a website called Chathouse. They had a roleplay area that had a ton of genres and I played a lot of different characters there and practically lived there from 2000-2003. Not a day went by I didn't play as someone. That was so much fun.
