There were non used ports in the mold that a 3p took advantage of for their Victory Leo (KFC Simba), so it's possible that an official Victory Leo was a possibility at one point but later abandoned
But is that an OFFICIAL Hasbro/ TT product? No. And if "3p counts as (character) being released" then i guess Hasbro should just close their doors and call it quits, because 3p has done unofficial versions of just about everything.
You asked if the MP had combination designed into him. There are ports that serve no purpose on the mold that KFC took advantage of for Simba, so it's probable that those ports were intended to be used in combination. Granted it's probably something we will never fully know.
But your question was to the nature of, "is it even combiner compatible?" And if a third party can do it, especially one that is considered hit and miss in regard to their efforts, then certainly Takara and its "never do wrong" fanbase can justify doing the same if not better with the existing Star Saber figure.
Yes, I'm getting the "does have combiner capability" vibe. I don't own MP and now I know..... BUT STILL it's like saying "I have Motormaster, he has combiner capability, but they never released the rest of the Stunticons". So yes I admit MP SS is FULLY FUNCTIONAL, but without a Hasbro MP Victory Leo he is still incomplete in that he cannot become Victory Saber.
Also, better example: Combiner Wars released Scattershot by himself with no other Technobots. Up until the Computron box sets were announced there was an awful lot of butt-hurt about "why aren't we getting Computron???" (Myself included.) Same vibe with MP SS / VL, except VL didn't happen. Edit: I will get off my soapbox now and patiently await actual pics/ preorders for SS.
IIRC there was an interview with the designer(Hisashi Yuki) that MP-24 was designed with a Victory Leo combination in mind(because it's his passion project as well), but it will only happen if Takara decides to do it(since MP-24 SS happened only because it was voter's choice thing) which 28 MPs later, didn't happen.
"Have?" We know *nothing* official about this. I appreciate leaks, but people are building this up in unhealthy ways. The only thing I'm "expecting" is Star Saber. The price, tiers, required number of backers, etc are all unknowns as far as I'm concerned.
Dang...$45. Figured it might be a bit pricier than normal, but that's a bummer. I'm out at that price, unfortunately. I guess I'm going to have to be a bit more selective with figures.
If this Star Saber is meant to fit the Legacy/WFC line I think there's some points we can expect it to have that the Masterpiece would not have, such as an updated sculpt with more detailing and modernized features and what not in his body instead of being cartoon accurate, nubs for Special Effect parts and etc., on those points alone it already differentiates it enough from the MP to "have a reason to exist" IMO
This is actually TERRIBLE news. Anything in HASLAB is grossly overpriced for what they deliver and if Unicron is any indication, they will bait and switch by showing more than what they deliver.
Titans Return Overlord didn’t need a Haslab, why would Star Saber? Especially when the engineering’s all worked out from the MP. A haslab should be something that’s more impossible, like making a road caesar that doesnt look funny
I don't think Unicron is overpriced. At least, not at the Haslab backer price. I've got friends that have made out well reselling their Unicrons off after changing their collection priorities, but I would have a hard time buying it at the current market price!
Titan Returns Overlord was a Leader-class from TR days, he doesn't have 1/10 of the sheer parts count that a Star Saber who is aiming for high articulation and size accurate to the original cartoon's depiction would have. A Star Saber done "without compromises" would not fit any current price point of the toyline.
That's exactly it. I'm really interested to see the subtle aesthetic flourishes we'll get because its not-an-MP. It won't be 100% cartoon accurate and I look forward to that.
