They probably want people who bought the original to jump in on this one as well.

If all the new version has to offer is just a bunch of new parts, then people will email them asking to buy just the new parts, which is not what they want.

 

Just judging by this thread, they lost half a dozen new customers. I doubt double dippers would outnumber new buyers.

 

I certainly would not be buying, but there has to be a certain demand for transparent figures. Fans Toys did one for their Phoenix. Toyworld did one or two for Constructors. XTB with their Eligos, Generation Toys with their Gravity Builder, etc, etc.

 

I'm not saying there's no demand for transparent figures. But there's also specific reasons people collect transparent figures. Just my opinion, all of the figures you listed have had multiple runs of their OG version or multiple colorways, so a transparent version makes sense for completionists who want every version. Stealth Megs has been sold out for some time, and when a reissue is finally announced, it turns out to be translucent. Doesn't make as much sense to me.

 

Actually my point is there's people who will buy a transparent version of a figure no matter what. There might not be a lot of them, but I am guessing Generation Toys has a fair idea of how many based on the sales number of the clear version of their Devastator.

I'm sure ShowZ got about a million questions when they put up that little blurb. Hopefully it's not a total disaster like what happened with Locke. I don't think I could handle that level of disappointment twice in a row

 

I don't think it will be like Locke. That thing was a disaster right from the start. When it comes to figures with clear parts, I tend to think of them as things with a definite shelf life i.e. they'll be fine as long as you consume them before a certain date, but after that date has passed, you are on your own.

 

Cancelled my preorder for now. Not taking the chance it arrives sooner before we get updated photos.

 

Wish they would just sell the remolded parts separately in the old colors for those of us who already had the first run. I'll gladly pay for them as long as the price wasn't unreasonable.

 

I've got several clear figures and figures that use clear plastic from the Beastbox line and they are all solid as a rock. I'm keeping my pre-order for this guy for now and hoping there was some miscommunication and they're doing a straight reissue with the new wings and a clear version or maybe even a real just bad translation and the actual clear part is the blast effect or the flight stand. I sold my MP36 when this popped up because I wanted my MP Megs to be different

 

Maybe they meant all the black parts are transluscent but painted black to give that lining effect?

So I straight up asked ShowZ about it. Their response was


All the black parts will be like this, it's kind of transparent, but not very.

And they had the first picture with the new wing tips and they were circled so I'm hopeful enough to give them my money. Pray to Mighty Thor, Great Ra, and Merciful Poseidon that it's all gonna turn out okay

 

I need my Flame Toys Megatron already. Sure it does not transform, but the bot mode is superior to this one.

 

I'm hoping so. It'll definitely look better in some spots.

 

It's not about the money, it's about annoying customers. Reminds me of the time they advertised an orange Gravity Builder and then released it in yellow. I think GT likes to fuck with people lol

 

I.... think I'm OK with this. Not certain, but definitely not completely put off the idea. You can see in the pictures that there's clearly detail behind showing up, but definitely not full-on transparency.

Mind you, if you look at those pieces it's quite possible they've always been made of "clear" plastic - specifically clear purple - with the black painted over it, rather than solid black with purple detailing. All this would suggest they're doing is using a less dense pigment for the colouration, so the underlying figure won't be any different in terms of stability.

 

If anyone wants the regular version, I have a copy I can part with. I’m tempted by clear and I don’t need two of him.
