Got my Apeface today. Pretty cool take on the original g1 toy. Haven't had any issues with him yet, but thanks to everyone giving the heads up on possible breakage areas. :thumb

    Wow he’s polarizing!

Look, I haven’t spent a lot of time with him but my current view is:

    • robot mode: solid
    • Gorilla: a mess
    • Plane: a mess
But! Maybe he’s just a grower, and there’s just more nuance and subtlety required with the transformation. We will see.

No. Your review is somewhat fair. I don't like how things have to be lined up just right for the figure to work in either the plane or gorilla mode.

I just got him myself. To clarify, my gripes are just gripes...he’s not a bad figure. I just wanted perfection for a figure that I know is obscure to many but was a beloved toy for me. My issues are just cosmetic, I think it’s a good mold, and the best representation of Apeface ever. The white isn’t distracting in person, it photographs terribly. If you wanted to get him before...I urge you to do so. We should give Hasbro props for digging into their back catalogue of characters.

So I've seen several people talk about sanding things like this since I've been here and I'm wondering, is there any specific type of sand paper that works best for the plastic?

The two male tabs that sticks out actually slide in underneath/behind on both sides of the female slot.

It's nice and snug! Nothing more satisfying than getting that to lock into place! The toy just went from 10 to a billion in sweetness! :)

I use 1000 grit wet or dry for plastics. It takes a little longer but makes for a smoother and more polished finish. It’s also not as easy to sand away too much with this one. Just cut a small strip, wrap it around the peg and twist it around until you get the fit you want. Or put a bit in the hole and work it around with a screwdriver or whatever you can find that fits.

That’s the backside. The actual abrasion side is black. I bought a few sheets of it ten years ago and still have enough to last another decade.

The final clicking of the neck joint clip and the jet nose pole/post is probably one of the scariest moments of transformation I've done in AGES. I think the last time I was that worries was with Studio Series VW Bee. Still, once it is done he locks in perfectly and looks great.

Glad I got him on sale, have no attachment to the character but he is just a strange and interesting looking transfomrer.

Going from Springer, whose instructions are so thorough even if I get lost easily, to Apeface, who has a set of instructions so vague that I might as well not have them, I find him a similar blast to have, especially with that gorilla neck deal figured out. I didn't think I'd like the rear-set pilot seat, but it's fine in practice. The tailfin shield can be a pain to take off, though. I do like that the battle damage is only on colored plastic, compared to Springer who put some of it over paint.

My hope with Snapdragon is that his white isn't this pearlescent wash-out. The same goes for any Transformer release going forward. It's fine, I guess, but it makes Apeface look like an antique vase.

Oh, and if you're inclined to keep him in the ape head for jet mode, turning it around hides away the chompers, but you do get a big dark lump sticking out.

Love the trio of apelings! Be careful with the tailfin, it’s breaking on some people because of how tight it is. I sanded mine down a little.

    For your consideration:

    (more attached to post)

Yeah, I'll have to do that. Trying to cautiously jiggle the part out will only get me so far before I accidentally snap it.

Having a little Apesquad has been fun, Snapdragon's gonna have quite the hassle on his hands whenever he decides to come home.

Thanks all for the advice. I don’t think I got the neck perfect, but it’s much better now and very useable.

I’ve revised my opinion upwards slightly. Robot mode is still the best mode. I’ve spent more time fiddling with this one trying to get it right than most of the rest of Siege (and most mainline releases, period), which I think some people will enjoy. However, the issues with the pegs/holes being either too loose or too tight is utterly bizarre given that they’ve been a focus of Siege.

got my apeface in. sanded down the wing a little to avoid that potential issue and i gotta say i love this thing. his transformations are fun and pretty involved. i've been fiddling with it since it landed on my doorstep. i hope we get a snapdragon next...out of the two he was my favorite. kong needs his godzilla...

I got my ApeFace. FOr the most part it’s growing on me. Solid robot. If you have patience, the ape mode is solid as well. BTW the neck on the ape can be set right, unlike this other reviewer showed. Lastly the Jet mode does not have that nose up issue either. DOn’t trust the early photos, the cockpit/nose straightens out just fine.

Transformed CORRECTLY all three modes are solid and look great.

The only downside is that this guy is very fiddelly to to transform. You need patience and you have to pay attention.

My main issue with my copy is I got caught by the quality control gremlins. I got two robot left toes. Yep.

I’m not in love with ApeFace but it’s growing on me.

I’m trying to decide if I want to get another one to fix the toe issue or just send it back to get my money to put towards a different figure.
