Hobbs & Shaw: 8/10 i loved everything about this! Even if 80% of the previews showed too much of the 3rd act. Fun over the top action flick.

Rim of the world: 8/10 Fun current gen teen movie with a 80’s feel. story was simple and unrealistic but it was a fun watch.

and 2 of that is from
    Kevin Hart's cameo
    .

If plot holes annoy you, stay far away from this one.

Friday the 13th (The original) - how did this become a franchise/10
I grew up with the huge 80s franchise horror films. Sleepaway Camp. Nightmare on Elm Street. Halloween. And Friday the 13th. This is arguable the weakest of the origin films. That's not to say it's a horrible watch with nostalgia glasses on, but good lord looking at it from a modern perspective you have to wonder why anyone thought they needed to do a sequel, let alone let it become what it became.

It's fun going back and enjoying a classic, even when admitting it ain't all that when you let yourself step aside from your own biases. I'm much more looking forward to 2 and 3 after watching the first one again, because I know they're at least objectively better than number 1.

Yeah the first one isn’t all that great. Like I said in a separate Friday the 13th thread, it’s one of the only major horror franchises where I don’t get excited when they announce that the original director is involved. It’s kinda slow, and the only characters I remember are Pamela Voorhees and Kevin Bacon (only because he’s played by Kevin Bacon). I really like Part 2 though.

    Aniara - 7/10

A bleak, slow, but surprisingly engaging sci film about a ship lost in space (and the society within) slowly breaking down. The use of recurring 'characters', such as they are, showing up over and over as we see the situation get worse and worse was pretty interesting, especially in a story that plays out over a really long period of time. They play it fancifully in terms of technology, but it never feels magical as much as it feels irrelevant, and it's clearly to create a setting where the peril is more chronic than acute. The film is slow (deliberately so), highly European in style, tone, and content, and frustrating in some of the loose ends it doesn't explore (even with the time to do so), but does a good job of showing how people could cope (or not) with a situation such as that.

Weirdly, Friday the 13th part 2 is the only entry in the franchise currently on Netflix in Japan. Nothing before, nothing after. At one point they had 3 (and only 3), and before that, they had the reboot movie for a while, but not anymore.

I have a soft spot for 3, but yeah, 2 is probably objectively as good as the series ever got, followed by 4. And then followed by nothing.

What I grew up loving were the ones that never got sequels and are now more obscure... Motel Hell...Terror Train... I have no idea if they hold up at all, though. Probably not.

Rewatched a few movies, some are a lot more watchable that I remembered, but some are worse than I remembered:

    Iron Man: 8/10

As the movie that kickstarted the MCU, this movie ages well for a 11 years old movie and I think it did that it need to do perfectly. Terence Howards is just meh as Rhodey, and I'm glad that Don Cheatle is later casted as Rhodey.

    The Dark Knight: 6/10

A good movie, and Ledger is casted well as Joker; His performance is very good, and probably the best part of the movie. That said, most of the action scenes are poorly choreographed and awkward, the movie in its middle act goes on for way too long, and Bale's performance as Batman is meh (And I hate his "throat-cancer" Batman voiceover)

    Disaster Movie: 1/10

Even for a "spoof movie", this movie is just terrible and deserves all of the harsh review it gets. None of the jokes are funny, the acting is just nest-level bad, and the movie itself is filled with nothing but references to other franchises that weren't even that funny. If people thought that things like The Last Jedi or Thor 2 are bad, they have probably never seen this movie yet.

Rewatched Kong: skull island and the Peter Jackson king kong. I like skull island more. But only by a little bit. I didn't enjoy the last hour of king kong and didn't care about his relationship with the actress lady. The action was good tho. And then skull island. Skull island has John Goodman and Samuel l Jackson and John c Reilly, so I already like it. Then there is the action, story, and actual characters. I liked most of it, the story is a little cliche, so King Kong had the better story. I also feel that tom Hiddleston was miscast as the one cool dude or whatever. So in my opinion skull island is Superior to Peter Jackson remake.

    One of Sandler's best movies.

    Straw Dogs (2011): 8.0/10
Everybody's saying the original is way better, but after watching a bunch of clips on YT (including the ending)... ewww! The original looks cheesy as f*ck and so poorly acted! lol

    It: Chapter One:
Got sick of waiting for that director's cut and saw the movie again as a refresher for the next chapter. Still holds up as an excellent horror movie, though this time I noticed the abundance of unnecessary loud close-ups.

    8/10
