What's the verdict on 'im, big yin?

So, after playing 'host with the most' all weekend, I'm just catching up with the NYTF reveals today. Blimey. That was quite a lot to take in.

So, inadvertent confirmation that the IDW universe is winding down thier current continuity. Seems to marry up rather neatly with Roberts tweets about the LL 'season' finale and also the end of Power of the Primes. New Generations trilogy and new IDW continuity all coming at the same time?

Power of the Primes ends in what, September with Novastar? It appears Oynx is coming with Preadking so what the David Dickenson is going to happen to Prime Masters for Nexus, Prima, and Amalgamous? Are we due a few boxsets, they're going to come with Repugnus and suchlike? Does this mean we've seen all the decoy armour we're going to get? Just the idea that we won't see a Waverider Decopy suit...God, that's frustrating! And no more Elita Infinite limbs? What's the joint of Jazz and Inferno? Christ, PotP is such a weird little line. It's like they decided they needed to sort out the Dinobots, Terrorcons and Predacons and just chucked the rest in to fill out the line. WEIRD! This feels like the TR wave 6 annoyance I felt, but even moreso!

I'm not...wowed by any of the reveals. I wholeheartedly agree with earlier point made by @Seeaich that, for once, Predaking feels like they went in the wrong direction with toy accuracy. He looks a bit rough and blocky. And all those Predacons feel a bit stumpy. I've bloody loved those sods since January '87 (PREY!) and I really, really wanted them to be...right. Maybe it's just bad set up and photography and when I get them in hand (because inevitably I'll buy 'em all up) I'll feel very different. That certainly happened with Trypticon.

And the wave 3 Prime Masters. I'm really not feeling any of them. Bomb-burst and Bludgeon just feel like the proportions area bit wrong, and Ovtopunch doesn't have any moster face, just a solid visor? urk. And while I don't have much investment for Optimus Primal, he also looks a bit wonky, especially the Voyager portion.

And that TRU Thundercracker is movieverse! Curses! Hope springs eternal for Repgunus and Wreck-Gar?

And finally this new Generations trilogy landing at the end of the year. Feels like some kind of a reboot, right? Be interesting to see how well it blends with the T:30 through Prime Wars era. There's a strong chance that this might be wehre I jump off. I guess it really depends on the whole approach. I didn't like much of the 'Fall of Cybertron' toyline, so if we're going in that direction it might eb a bit of a turn off. I've never pretended I wasn't a hoary old geewunner, and I definitely like a big dose of homage in my CHUG updates. I'm a bit vexed by the fan vote too. The Trypticon and Primal votes seem indicative that we're unlikely to see the losers show up in the toyline. If they're really telling me I can either pick Spinister OR Needlenose (withht like Wheeljack and Tracks, but big deal) then I am going to throw such a petulant moody.

And the movieverse stuff is really coming to an end. RISKY. Surely, form a business perspective, this is akin Unicron coming to just end everything? Or at least shrink the franchise down to one toyline?

 

I both hate and love you right now. My wallet shares my sentiments.

 

So, out of all the reveals it turns out that Blackout rockets to the top of my want list, I’ll probably pick up a Starscream too.

Oof. That’s pretty bad. I’d much rather have the pants sit off to the side than “integrated” like that.  

Serious pause engaged on buying these guys pending reviews. They need to be removable, then I’m back in.

However, this is why I only read news and discussion in here: we can say “not good Hasbro, I don’t think I’ll buy these with that issue” without the hyperbole of the rest of the forums (“tHOse legg partZ r HAZBLOW spittinG on us TRUe fanz anY1 Who buyz thesE ar ******Ed!!1! BOYCOTT HASBLOW”).

Well, that wasn’t a lot of fun. Speedbump looks great but that transformation was sunsurge levels of pain and suffering. I also managed to break his leg going between modes; just fell a part in my hands. Thankfully, it seems to hold together ok still but I am a bit gutted. I will console myself with the knowledge that he looks nice in both modes but I think I will put him back to bot mode and then a bot he will remain.



I do miss being able to flip a bot between modes in seconds... like his g1 iteration but I guess that’s the price of having those bot mode aesthetics.

 

Indeed best beast deluxe of the line. Hell one of the best Prime deluxes period.

Hours pass and I still find everything about the Terrorcons to be incredibly sexy.

 

It’s a shame her neck barely turns but her robo posture has so much character it hardly even matters.

I don’t have enough Prime toys to be honest, but even if I had more I get the feeling Ripclaw would still be hard to beat.
