Are there reviews of the die cast weijiang voyager AOE/Tlk grimlock?

 

Only know they are fun got 2 thinking of getting a third and not making it a titan master.

thanks! I have one on the way from @SirToys but in the TLK coloring, it said die cast, so I wanted to know where it was.

I decided, after seeing the film, that this grimlock was going to be female dinobot commander for my collection (baby dinobots had to come from somewhere? why not the dinobot with odd cravings?)

I hadn't even noticed the face thing. Doesn't bother me at all.

Overall, i love the aesthetic of the toy, and I like variants / differences in prime toys, rather than being all clones of each other etc.

The first time I ever saw Omega Prime, I thought it the face was an absolute eye saw. now I have two of them, and it's one of my fav toys and optimus redesigns ever.
Same with TF Prime and RID 2015 Prime's, hated almost all of them for their art style and weird faces, but now I really dig them FOR their differences.

Sometimes I imagine their are fans who only ever want G1 Convoy / Prime from 1986 just re-released ever year of their life, with not changes, and they will be happy to buy it every year.
Me, not so much. I crave variey and new designs and differences etc, otherwise it's pretty boring. But I still kinda hate energon prime, well not the toy, but his derpy faces so I get when something is just aesthetically unpleasing to your eye for any reason, it just doesn't sit right with you. I think a few people would change their mind on this one if they handled the actual toy, it's just stunning, the dark red is really nice (its not the same as my desk, but darker - that is the flash giving it a lighter color) and unlike some of the 3P and MP type stuff, I don't feel afraid to transform it - bits are not falling off etc. Well maybe the rubber wheels in ten years? LOL

 

I like the new head. It differentiates it from the original.

 

So impressed by the OS TLK Megatron it got me back on the weijiang hype train. Ordered the last of the Throttlebots and the gestalt parts so Pileup or Carpool or whatever the combined form is called will be complete soon.

On Sirtoys I know the green dot on Want List means "Now Available". But I have a green dot on my favorites list, but can't find any item it could be for or why. Anyone know what it means? LOL

 

You really didn't notice the silver paint covering the entire face area instead of just the mouthplate (which is more customary)? Wow. It's kind of obvious, isn't it?

I was just observing that a lot of people here and elsewhere seem to be complaining about the head on this figure. Actually, I think the headsculpt is pretty cool, maybe better than the original Hasbro... but I think that what a lot of people are responding to is the paint application.

It's pretty simple. In painting the entire face area silver, you lose contrast and lose some of the basic forms of the face sculpt. There's no differentiation between the mouthplate and eye area behind it, so it all comes across looking like one big mask.

On top of that, having the silver around the eyes makes them look dark and empty, when traditionally, the eyes on TF faces like this are usually points of brightness that stand out against their background.

Lastly, that kind of block silver painting probably subconsciously reminds people of cheap KO figures that use similar large blocks of undifferentiated (often silver) paint over detail areas. So for those reasons, people might be looking at the head and thinking "that looks off somehow and a bit cheap," without realizing that it's the paint application that gives that impression.

Hey, if you don't notice any of that stuff, more power to you. I think that people actually do notice a lot more stuff than they think... but they don't always recognize exactly what they're seeing. For me, if I do get this guy, I know the first thing I'm going to touch up.

I noticed on ali express that you can order the oversized evasion optimus prime without a box for much less. Is that a wise idea? Has anyone used this option before?

 

I've have ordered items in the past from GiftLoveStore on AliExpress several times in the past, without a box.

The item arrives wrapped in bubble wrap and encased in a custom made styrofoam box.

Some figures like M01 and MPP10 are disassembled to reduce size/volume.
Legs seperated from upper torso - simple enough fix - pop off 2 screws, put legs in place, close, re-screw shut.

Hope it helps.
