Maybe they could just make it so the game LOOKS like SMB2, but plays like the other Marios so as not confuse those who never played SMB2.

Heck, I loved that in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of the stages you can fight in is pretty SMB2, complete with various enemies from it appearing. Also, one of Peach's moves being the whole pulling a turnip out of the ground to throw at opponents.

Wonder if Mario Maker 3 will include builds for 64, Sunshine, Galaxy and Odyssey.

I'd hope for a Legend of Zelda Maker before that happens. LOL

    I know! It's a super logical follow-up. I'd love to play top-down fan-made Zelda games. :-/

Especially with the randomizers out there for the games in the emulation world.

Obviously they would have to use all the top-down templates for a Zelda Maker, so I imagine they could have the original Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, Minish Cap, and A Link Between Worlds maybe as the template options. Maybe the Game Boy games (Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages, and Oracle of Seasons) as well.

The thing about Super Mario Maker is the idea that the levels are meant to be shared - whereas Zelda is meant to be a 10-20 hour scavenger hunt with combat elements. The only way to viably make a Zelda Maker that enables sharing is by way of using the -ugh- Four Swords model of bite-sized labyrinths. The ideal to make both sides happy might be to have the Four Swords side of the Maker that is internet enabled and then an 8-bit sandbox mode in which you can build your own version of LoZ1 (which would theoretically eat up the least amount of memory).

Probably a stupid question, but do all three versions (Wii-U, 3DS, and Switch) feed into each other? In other words, I have the game for the Wii-U...can I play levels made on the systems and vice versa? Also, I starred a level by accident and didn't realize that it doesn't let you un-star it. Dumb.

Thanks. Anyone know how this relates to the Switch version?

We don't know anything. Like, at all.

Most likely, there will be no connectivity at all. Frankly, I think there is a reason why this is "Super Mario Maker 2" rather than just an enhanced port of Super Mario Maker.

Agreed. Out of all the AAA developers out there, Nintendo does not rank very high on the "Will Likely Include Backwards Compatibility" List. The solution that Nintendo usually provides is "buy it again." (I say this as a big Nintendo fanboy.)

I know they're coming out with SMM2, but I thought they ported the first to Switch already. Did that not happen?

Edit: Apparently, they did not. I have no idea where I got that from lol. I guess I just assumed because they've ported over most of the Wii-U games it seems.

The switch from disc to cart made that a lot more difficult. Prior to that, they were the kings of backwards compatibility for at least the previous generation's console (on the first editions, at least). The Wii could play Gamecube games, the WiiU could play Wii games, Gameboy Advance could play Gameboy games, the DS could play GA games, the 3DS could play DS games.

The Switch is really the first complete breakaway from prior consoles that Nintendo's had in a long while.

I've been making a handful of new levels on my 2DS. Unfortunately, the volume switch recently busted so that's dampened my enthusiasm on that system. Guess I'll need to go back to the WiiU...

Is it someone important or special if it actually states their name in your notification for playing the course? I thought it always said "someone played (insert course name here." I had one that actually had the person's name in the notification and it was in green. I don't get it.
