To be fair, they didn't really do what I was hypothesizing lol. I actually think in some respect they went a far better route.

In my highly speculative musings, they would have kept the long shoulder parts of the Magnus mold, but made them have new hinges or joints, so that, in combination with some parts forming, we could have some version of both PMOP and God Ginrai optionally if we wanted to. They also didn't retain the "cape," with the truck sides instead wrapping around the legs. I actually feel like their solution is more elegant. Theirs also involved more actual retooling and redesign, rather than mostly just repainting + some additional components and joints.

I'm looking forward to what Takara does with it, though. I'm HOPING it looks more like G1 PMOP (or Super Ginrai) and less like God Ginrai. In retrospect, the things I wanted them (Hasbro) to do would have made his price grow beyond the Leader Class figure price point they were shooting for imo.

 

We've already been shown it. It looks like Super Ginrai, not God Ginrai. In fact, they call the figure Super Ginrai.

 

TakaraTomy had stated that they will be retooling the figure will have him be an official update to Super Ginrai. So expect him to look more like a "Head Master" version of the character.

(And I am also guessing that "Head Master" might be a new version of the Headmasters. No clue, but I am guessing they are using Marvel's use of Nucleon for this portion of their Legends line.)

As for Hasbro... My only guess is that they are using the Leader class as a means to turn Fortress Maximus' "city mode" into a new Autobot City. Maybe more. But, again, pure speculation.  

 

I honestly like the official Hasbro version far better, which is to be expected considering the original was just a clunky (But clever) photoshop.

I'm honestly glad they didn't try to shoehorn the non-armored-Optimus mode into the figure It wouldn't have looked right no matter how they did it.
