If they continued Prime, and even if they don't, would anyone be able to use the Star Saber? Even though Prime said each one of them acted as a Prime, that doesn't mean they all can use it, does it? I guess they could rip an arm off of a Prime's corpse, but still...

Well, as Bumblebee showed, any of them can technically use it...but to use the full power, I'm fairly certain you have to have the Matrix, which went down with the ship-sized Optimus.

Well, Megatron was able to use the Forge with a Prime arm. I don't know.

Being a Prime, or stealing a Prime's power/bodyparts, is the foolproof way to operate a relic of the Thirteen. Of course, the former is very limited in how many there are, and the latter is limited in whether or not you're compatible with them. I don't think Arcee could have stuck on that big ol' arm Megs had.

    That still makes no sense.

If Optimus was annointent Prime, then could he have never used them before? Optimus declared Smokescreen a Prime and he couldn't use the forge. What MAKES a Prime? Is it something you're ordained to be, or can be given as a title? BOTH examples are used in the show, and in contradicting ways.

I guess they kinda fudged that whole "this show is all about what it means to be a Prime" thing a bit, eh?

Not without the Matrix he couldn't. It was the Matrix that transformed him from Orion Pax into Optimus Prime, and it is the Matrix that grants him the power to use the original weapons. Orion Pax couldn't have used the Forge's abilities, etc, because he doesn't have the powers to fuel it.

You can have Prime qualities, they say, which basically boils down to being noble and compassionate and good and all that jazz, and you could have it as a title if you wanted, it's just nowadays with Primus gone you need the Matrix to access the actual superpowers that came with the original packaging, you know?

Remember, when Optimus totally died and gave Smokescreen the title of Prime, his chest opened to reveal the Matrix. Plan was, even though he totally died, Smokescreen can take Matrix, Matrix transforms him into new Prime with cool Prime powers, awesome.

What makes a Prime an actual Prime with all that wicked power and stuff, basically, is that you're either a supersoldier designed by robot-god to fight the other robot-god, or you're some bot lucky enough to have a vessel containing supersoldier robot-god shit put inside you.

But then you run into the problem of Megatron using the forge with only the arm of a prime and no matrix at all.

I guess how the show was going. Bumble Bee cause he was raising up to be a leader. SmokeScreen cause he had to potential to be a prime. And...ummm Jack?

I think we can all agree guide lines on Prime are a little vague. On one side we got Jack (a NOT-robot) taking a prime power mcguffin to cybertron and on the other end Megs just needed a new arm.

I don't think Jack was an actual Prime, though? He was called "an honorary Prime," as his job was simply to hold the key.

Actually Smokescreen did use the Forge in a rather roundabout way. Smokescreen was chosen to be the next Prime. Alpha Trion probably predicted this would happen but he refused.

A combination of him hitting Prime with the Forge and Optimus choosing not to join the Allspark yet, the Matrix and the Forge worked in tandem rebuilding Optimus.

If Smokescreen took the mantle he would've been the first non-Thirteen to be a legit Prime.

Sentinel Prime had the office but he was not chosen to bear the Matrix.

Optimus Prime was one of the Thirteen Primes.

No one declared Smokescreen a Prime, he was just determined to be a worthy candidate. Had he taken the matrix from Optimus rather than giving him the forge so it would fix him, then he would have become a Prime.

The arm that Megatron took was one of the original 13's...they never had the matrix to begin with (there wasn't 13 matrix's after all), so it's not unlikely to think that there might be enough of whatever the forge keys in on left for the forge to work for Megs.

Yes. Optimus was the first to have the Matrix, wasn't he? The Cybertron games are in the same universe as Prime, so Optimus was the first and last Prime to use the Matrix because he brought it down with him when he entered Primus' core, reuniting his spark with the piece he gave to Optimus.

Basically the Star Saber would be utterly useless plain and simple. You know other then for stabbing warlords in the spark.

Which, you know, is a reasonable use for a sword.

Ultra Magnus is big enough to use the Saber as a regular weapon, like he did the Forge. But I think as the Matrix is no more - until Optimus comes back - none of them can use the Star Saber as the ultra cool game changing weapon. Which would remove the story breaker power from it, admittedly.

I could sure use it. Would come in handy cleaning up the back yard. I have a couple of bushes that need to be chopped up.

It's like having a chainsaw. You could still swing it about and kill a person with it even if it's not switched on, but if you can switch it on them you can do a hell of a lot more damage.

Optimus using the Star Saber is like having a chainsaw and being able to turn it on too.

You can use an unloaded gun to pistol whip a bitch to death, but if you can also provide the ammo for the gun you're going to be able to kill a lot more stuff more easily. Adding Optimus to the gun is like adding ammo to it.
