It took me absolutely forever to read this, but I really love the effort and attention to detail that they put into writing this. If you love to read or are curious why people like the TF films, I urge you to give this a read. https://www.scribd.com/doc/210677266/I-actually-kind-of-appreciate-the-Transformers-movies
If you put this entire forum together, I bet we've got him beat twice over. Four times over if you compile the criticisms, but half of the pages are just going to be "BAY SUX" over and over.
It's honestly kind of scary that someone took the effort to write 500 pages(!!!!!!!!!!!) to defend the movies. Puts the fanatic back in fandom.
I'd rather move back to that definition than stay on the "if you like it enough to buy a shirt" setting.
I used to defend the movies. But now it's impossible. They're just not great and there's so much wasted potential. The one point that renders all defenses useless is that these movies aren't transformers movies, they're movies about humans with their robot friends. We don't get to see any real relationship between the transformers themselves, we only really see human/human or human/robot relationships. It's a shame. Throw in terrible plot holes, cringe-worthy jokes, poor planning, and the over use of mcguffins, and you wind up without a defense.
Honestly the same can be said for someone who can write up 500 pages of why they hate the TF movies so much and let's be honest both sides have their share of people that take things too far. After all even the MCU have people like that.
This was brought up before. It's NOT white-knighting the movies, not by a long shot. It rambles on quite a bit, going really out there at points, and it rather inexplicably takes a detour to analyze Duel for whatever reason. Chances are you'll be skimming a lot. But what it does do is patch together an AMAZING interpretation of Megatron and the Decepticons. Don't trip over yourself trying to explain how that's not what the film meant or whatever, just take it for what it is and enjoy. Like playing Dark Side of the Moon during Wizard of Oz.
Except the MCU is almost unanimously regarded as being 100x better than any transformers movie. The only arguments to the contrary are found on this site.
I've always said that I don't consider myself a fan in the same way a lot of my fellow fans consider themselves fans, but I am not a fan compared to this guy. Transformers is this dude's blood, sweat and tears.
I've never managed to sit through ROTF a second time, like I'm gonna read through 500 pages of someone telling me why it's good! I know there's a lot going on in these movies and it's impossible to pick up on everything in just a few viewings, but that's why we have people like Hazekiah around here to point stuff out, and he puts pictures on his essays!
Nobody is curious why people like the TF films, I've found. If someone hates them, they don't want to be won over or look at things from any perspective other than their own.
This is true, though unfortunately, the opposite is true as well. Many people who have decided they like the movies are actively disinterested in hearing any criticism about it, or apply reductionism to those criticisms down towards "they are a hater". Both sides use information, to paraphrase Vin Scully, as a drunk uses a lamppost: for support, rather than illumination. I flipped through the document, I think at least some of it is taken from the somethingawful thread dissecting the first three films, which was actually a good read. It'll infuriate both fans and critics of those films, though.
