    I don't understand the moaning.

Every 3D film so far (and let's be fair here - there aren't actually THAT many) has been released in a 2D version as well. Many theatres world wide are simply not set up for 3D projection so until that changes you can all rest easy that you'll get to choose how you see your films.

I don't think the last Saw & Jackass installments had 2D releases. That said, I can't see Paramount wanting to lose out on so much potential revenue by limiting DOTM to 3D only. As an example, Jackass 3D was a low-budget production so wouldn't have to rake in so much to turn a profit around.

Although not shot on the IMAX cameras, it is possible to do a 'blow-up' from the 35mm negative onto 70mm IMAX film stock. Blow-ups can never achieve the clarity of detail present in native IMAX footage, but shooting digitally (the Cameron Pace rig is digital, not film) at a very high resolution should (in theory) enable a much sharper final print after the conversion.

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D, and while that film was also NOT shot on IMAX cameras, the blow-up was perfectly enjoyable - though nothing compared to the proper stuff seen in The Dark Knight.

Nope, both had a 2D simultaneous release. They just made a big noise promoting the 3D. As you would if it brings in the revenue.

I was going to go to the Imax theater for this TF movie but I guess I'm not now.

I stand corrected then. :D  All further evidence that DOTM will inevitable have a 2D release. I'm not fussed either way, I get on quite well with 3D but I'm reluctant to pay extra for the experience.

I think a lot of people are, myself included. With dwindling returns thanks to the home cinema market and illegal downloading I can't see anything getting much cheaper though.

    Except they didn't.

    Both had a 2D release.

Eh, there aren't any IMAX theaters near where I live, or within reasonable driving distance, so it doesn't bother me. I'll probably catch one 3D showing anyway; the only movie I've seen in 3D was Avatar, and that was excellent, and I imagine giant fighting robots + Bayhem + 3D will be quite an experience.
