In further review of our Toy Fair 2008 press package the Transformers Animated Dinobot pictured here is actually named Snarl, not Slag. Expect confirmation on this in the way of packaged samples hitting Ebay or Asian auction sites in the near future. If you missed it, check out our full coverage of Toy Fair 2008.

I don't understand the logic behind this. Hasbro got the rights back for the name slag around the same time they did for Elita-1. i wonder if animated getting put back has affected their right to use the name.
i found the link
http://www.transformertoys.co.uk/content.php?/transformers-trademarks/USPTO/76674442/slag/slag.html
they got the name nottoo long ago, it would be silly to aquire it and not use it.

Or Stampy!

If Slag really is Snarl, the Animated version of G1 Snarl (if there will be one) will probably get some other name. Like Spike. Or Stomp.

you're right! now i want an extensive remold into Snarl. i want an update of G1 snarl, period.
shroobmaster
You know… now that I look at Snarl and Slag side by side.
He's more like Snarl than Slag!
Glitcher
Look at it this way: at least fans hankering for Snarl to be in Animated finally get their wish. Now all Hasbro needs to do is rename Swoop as Sludge and everyone will be happy.
I know what you mean. Imagine if there was a Transformer called Shitpiece.
Oh…

There's hope!!

…It's a pity your trademarks get lost so easily or I might have some sense of satisfaction.
REDLINE
snarl was always my favorite. he was my first dinobot toy, and his robot mode looks so sweet with the gold chromed "wings". I always was disappointed he got no love in the show.
KA
i dont see the big deal. its not like snarl/slag is a fan fave.
in fact, the 2nd dinobot that gets shine after grimmy is swoop, in both the old toon n comics.
unless your counting when slag says 'excuse me'! and pick a fight with grimmy in tftm86, that was great.
maltesefalcon
Hi first time on the board, I recently got the IDW animated volumes 1 and 2 which is the tv show in graphic novel form. according to it the name is slag.
Moonscream
Methinks Hasbro will have some 'splainin' to do at Botcon.

Chaos Muffin
He's still Slag to me, those names they put on the packages, mean nothing. NOTHING
airfox
Now that is weird.
So Hasbro has the name trademarked, with no opposition, and names the triceratop Slag? Wonder what happened there…

Shin Densetsu
Hey is his weapon a club sword? Thats bad ass I love the detail.
Nightrain
The cartoon will be.
Sol Fury
Hopefully it is a mix-up, because I'd love an Animated Snarl. What could they call him if Slag gets his name? Maybe the two would get switched, but if that happened, it would be to the order of the Downshift / Wheeljack mix-up from AEC.
Autovolt 127
I'l call him Slag anyway.
iconscons
If they don't have the rights to a name, they should make up a new name, not use another classic one. This taints the toy more than some new name.
Feralstorm
Well, now I'm just hoping that "Snarl" is just a goof-up by whoever at Hasbro put together the press packet.
Like others have said, we probably won't know for sure until package samples appear, and maybe not even %100 sure until they hit shelves.
