I was looking at the wave 3 of the Power Core Combiners, and I found it quite disappointing... The destrons team looks really cool, I actually like the colors. But I would like to see the original Bombshock as the commander, and have them all painted resembling the G1 cartoon colors, for a Bruticus reference: The 2-packs don't seem particularly appealing, specially the helicopter. I love those molds, but I'm not so fond on these colors. And the protectobots... oh my god, that sure was a disappointment. 2 tanks and one jet in the protectobots? come on... And please, don't enlighten me on the meaning of the word "protect" and how you can protect someting by launching missiles at the enemies. That's not the point. The point is that the protectobots used to be public service vehicles, a rescue team, not a strike force. Why not have the battlebots if you want military autobots? that would be awesome! but not military vehicles for the protectobots. It's a pity, because I like a lot the ambulance and the helicopter, they are spot on. Even if the ambulance doesn't look exactly like Hotspot, that's not a problem. So I started thinking about what cool combinations could have been done, and I came up with these: (sorry for my poor editing skills!) Defensor: This would have been a better choice for the protectobots, don't you think? - the crane truck from the destructicons as a city towing truck: well, it's a crane with... missiles... But it's a crane! not an anti-air missile launcher tank (-_-#) This drone would represent the FORCE - the armored van from the original set: Actually it can work perfectly with the proper paint scheme: make it be a SWAT van, in dark blue with the letters on the side. That would make it a perfect choice. The protectobots, being a rescue team for a combat situation, would eventually need some backup firepower. But some, not 2 tanks and a jet... This drone would represent the FIREPOWER - the black car from the rallybots: Do I have to explain it? paint it as a police car, and there you are. This drone would represent the SPEED And the red helicopter from the original set is perfect, he is a homage to Blades, and he can represent the SKILL - - - LeoKaiser: Actually there are a lot of possible combinations for this LeoKaiser homage: - you can have the truck with spikes in the front from the destructicons painted in purple, as a homage to Drillhorn - you can have the recon plane drone from the aerialbots painted in blue, as a homage to Hellbat: - - - and more Victory homages! RoadCaesar: and LandCross: Yes, by some reason, the PCC remind me a lot of Victory... What do you think of them? If you have some new ideas and you can do some digi-bashing, don't doubt to share them here.
I really think that PCC are a great way to give us a new nexus prime, I would guess a mix of the combat and arial teams not sure who to use as the core though and as he's one of the 13 he probably should have a minicon.
Eh, I'm not too bothered by the new Protectobots having a tank in their team now. These aren't the original Protectobots who I would be outraged if a tank joined their team. Its understandable what they were doing; giving a Mini-Con partnered Commander mold two drones from each five pack. Also, each repaint has to be the opposite faction to the toy they were repainted from. This may change in future but its a trend I would approve of. Knowing that, it makes sense to do what they did for Stakeout; although I'd have switched out a tank with the APC personally. They could do a dedicated traditional rescue team later on with ambulance and police car drones. Although we will be seeing familar team names from PCC, I'm not expecting a dedicated homage to the original team with the same name. Bombshock, Skyburst and even Stakeout are deserving of the Combaticon, Aerialbot and Protectobot team names despite bearing little resemblence (or barely any at all with the Protectobots). Now we know how Hasbro will treat repaints in the PCC line, we can more accurately think about what they will do for future repaints. Sledge, Icepick and Leadfoot will be repainted into two Autobots and one Decepticon respectively with one Autobot and the Leadfoot Decepticon repaint being partnered with two Rallybot and two Destructicon drones. I'm thinking that Leadfoot's repaint will be a Stunticon. However, Icepick and Sledge don't really lend themselves well to being partnered with Rallybot drones. Some creative thinking will have to be done to give them an appropriate team name. My initial thought for this was The Wreckers; the Sledge mold, two Rallybot drones and the two truck drones from the Destructicons.
>These aren't the original Protectobots ^ Yes, I didn't mean that I wanted Streetwise, Groove and Hot-spot there, I meant that doing what I did you can have a more protectobot-like team, or at least one that makes more sense than tanks and an ambulance together. >Now we know how Hasbro will treat repaints in the PCC line ^ You are right, however I would like to see more new molds since as you said Sledge or Icepick just don't mix well with any of the existing ones.
I say just wait for future waves. While the tanks don't make any sense with the Protectobots and Crankcase's drones aren't Rallybot Stunticon repaints doesn't mean they won't release sets in the future that won't fit in with the themes we know of right now
I just hope the Leadfoot repaint is done as a Dragstrip homage. He resembles Dragstip anyway, so painting him in those colors would be a total win.
Since I just recently got my hands on 1, I just love these little guys but I am so waiting on SOMETHING cool from Fansproject to make these guys BETTER say like some add-on REAL moving hands or a bigger head or SOMETHING to make them a bit cooler.
I wouldn't put it past them if PCC does well and has a long future for them to give repaints new molds in the same pack. Say, two drones from two different teams with a new mold Commander unifying the two sets of drones. Or a repaint of a Commander figure with four new mold drones. But if they continue to repaint them as they did for the first set of repaints which results in either Icepick or Sledge being partnered with two Rallybot drones then perhaps a more generic team name would suffice. Omnibots, Battlechargers, Throttlebots; none of those team names are locked to a certain type of vehicle mode although they won't homage the original team. Or Hasbro could skip a wave of repaints and then have the Destructicons, Rallybots, Constructicons and Dinobots to pick and choose from for repaints. One repaint team could have a single drone from each of the four teams perhaps.
I'd rather they stick with non-G1 inspired teams so people would quit comparing them to the G1 teams.
Iceberg and the Adventurebots (Armada Mini-con inspired) Groundhog and the Stunticons (Homage-ish while trying to be different)
I'd have gone with the Destructicon dune buggy for the Stunticons over the missile carrier truck. But you were going for a loose Motormaster homage weren't you? EDIT: I take it back, those two digibashes are fine. Although I'd go with a better name than Adventurebots.
Hey! you actually gave me another repaint idea with the current molds! Enter: the throttlebots or with this one >Triblurr: the armada homage is great!
Yes to the Motormaster homage. lol And yeah Adventurebots is kinda lame. Didn't know what else to call them.
Ok, here are some more... Minibots with Pipes as the Leader. Homages to Warpath, Windcharger, Gears and Powerglide Energon Prime. We are not likely to get a water drone, so I went for the jet. A homage to the original PCC
