my laptop just broke and I need to get a new computer. I'm looking to get either a surface pro 3 or Wacom cintiq companion hybrid since I am an artist.

I'm a 24/7 caregiver for my mother so I am not rich by any means. Unfortunately this means I must sell something and by something I mean my transformers from my childhood. I was wondering if anyone could help me price out my collection. I tried to on transformer land.com and stopped when I reached $1,000 because it seemed unrealistic.

Each picture is a different group (lot) but I'd like to sell them all in one shot. I don't want to drag out the long painful agony of getting rid of them slowly. Better to just get it over with I guess...

So realistically I need 2 prices.
1. What are they worth as a collector?
2. What should I list as the sale price?

If anyone can help, that would be great, thank you.

There, that's all of them, 7 pictures... I couldn't get the multi upload to work properly on my iPad so I just put them in individual posts.

I also have a bunch of 1st movie bay formers still in the boxes including the gigantic prime, blackout and a few others.

I also have a 25th anniversary prime still in the package..

What you guys think?

 

$1,000 isn't unrealistic. Without doing any research, you could have at least $700, but condition is everything and its a little difficult to tell by the pics. How are the joints? Any yellowing? How are the decals/ paint? Any notice able defects like scratches or wear?

 

All the joints are great. I took real great care for my transformers as a kid. They were all gently played with except for a few i traded for when i was a kid. I got soundwave, the dinobots, jetfire and omega used as a child. Omega still works(last time I had batteries in him he worked). Ratbat has his ears, Powermaster prime has all the pieces. Predaking is in excellent shape, I took real good care of him. armada jetfire works so does the Prime. Beast wars prime is in great condition as well, his blast shield can be put back on.

there are no heads for the headmasters, jetfire was broke when i got him so i took him apart and removed everything except for the jet and legs. The pretenders are in great condition, they just need cleaned up. the bulldozer constructicon has a broken "Cab roof" (one of two posts is broken). Also, the three beast wars I bought at a yardsale. Not sure if they have all thier bits because beast wars were notorious for slipping out of thier sockets.

All these toys were played with as a child and have general wear from use. I tried my best to love them and care for them as best I could and still be able to play with them. They have never been cleaned, they have 'grime?' on them still from 30 years. The G1 Jetfire has a lot of yellowing but hes broken anyways.

Thank you all for the input so far. Its tough even writing this out cause there are sooooo many memories attached to these babies. :_( But I would prefer to just sell them all as one lot. I dont know enough to do individual sales. I thought about buying a new stickerset for Predaking and picking up his missing pieces to complete him. But ya know... time is money

If the headmaster and jetfire are complete, cassettes are not missing accessories, OS still runs then I would say 1000 is not a bad price. Maybe even more couple years ago. However with all the reissues and 3rd parties in the market I am not sure how much they are worth more.

I was collecting G1 many years ago and to me boxes mean a lot as we'll.

 

I know they are still out there but I can't even imagine trying to collect g1 in boxes. Those are rich people dreams, lol. I imagine if I was just a few years older when transformers came out then maybe I might have kept some in boxes, but then again, I was always a hands on type of kid.

 

I only had 1 transformer back then.

And now that I can afford a few more, I still play with all the toys I bought. It is just that buying something with box feels nice and to me it is worth some premium (only some).

I still remember how shocked I was when I learned "AFA" grade and saw the price tags of these.

 

I really like the new masterpieces that have come out. I want a MP Soundwave soooo bad. The fan made combiners are sick looking too.

The Junkion Exchange is not a place for discussion or to post random and negative comments. Any posts of that nature will be removed. You may ask questions about the items for sale/trade, but nothing more.

 

Unfortunately, pricing G1 transformers is more an art than a science because condition is everything, but what defines "condition" with 30+ year-old toys? For example, what's more important: solid, unchipped paint or complete stickers? And so on. What is important to one collector will make no difference to another.

These are the things that decrease price for G1 with the generally more important factors first and then listed in descending order of importance (though, of course, like I said, some would disagree):

1. Broken
2. Incomplete (i.e. missing one or more original accessories)
3. Bad joints (do the arms hold up weapons, do the legs stay extended, etc.)
4. Discoloration (i.e. yellowing of white figures, staining, etc.)
5. Chipped paint
6. Missing or damaged stickers
7. Dirt and general grime

In addition, some collectors will pay much more if the paperwork, box, and original bubbles are included, but some don't care at all for these things. It doesn't look like you have any of this though.

Also, some people place importance on earlier runs (i.e. "pre-rub" on certain figures) whereas others don't.

Finally, I understand wanting to sell it all at once because it's easier, but if you want to maximize the money from your collection, you'll need to piece them out. When you define the person that wants to buy your entire collection for full price, you'll realize he doesn't exist. That would be someone not already in the hobby (because he has none of those figures yet) but who is absolutely certain he wants to drop $1000+ to get in. For all intents and purposes, people who buy collections (like I do occasionally), look to buy for prices where they can take the odd figure or two that they need and then resell the rest for a profit. On the other hand, a collector who just needs one or two of your figures will pay full price but doesn't want to be saddled with the rest of them at full price, which essentially makes your problem his.

That having been said, if you really do just want them gone, get bids from the big transformer resellers and take the highest. Simple and easy, but you'll get probably half price for them because the resellers need to make their money too if they're going to sell your collection for you. If you do want to maximize your money, though, time to go to eBay and check the SOLD history for items and try to look for figures in the same condition as yours. Some on here hate eBay because prices tend to get jacked up there, but the market is the market. That will tell you what people are actually buying the figures for.

The general consensus has valued them between 5-700 dollars so what if I just take the low figure and roll with it? You think that is fair value?
