Just got back from seeing ROTF, great movie, some mixed feelings

SPOILERS!

To answer many frequent questions

NO Barricade in movie

No explanation why Megan Fox puts the white dress on and holds the flowers, just does it for no reason it would seem

No explanation what the Twins reformat from the Ice Cream truck, they just do it in the hanger

Bikes do NOT combine (you only see the rider ladies once and one bike is killed at end or badly shot)

Optimus/ Jetfire combination NOT permenant, one whole booster ripped off fighting with Megatron and the Fallen. Prime tears rest off at battles end

Jolt appears out of nowhere 1/2 way into film on the runway (as does Ratchet) and you old see Jolt one other time from what I could see. Never a main shot or close up of him. His hands sizzle electricity like the SW Emperor. He must have less than 5 seconds screen time

There are LOADS of constructicons, after Devastator has combined you still see Mixmater and Long Haul loads, plus others

Bonecrusher from 1st movie appears in truck mode

You do see Soundwaves head but he never transforms. Voice is Welkers G1 Megatron voice

The "Blackout/Grindor" bot is never explained, just appears, slightly different head to Blackout though

Sideways only seen for robot for split second then back to car, then Sideswipe cuts him in half longways

FINALLY a shot of Optimus turning into the truck!

Megatron is a triple changer, you see him as robot, tank and a jet. Jet looked like tank but with flat wings, hard to see

Mixmaster is triple changer, robot, truck and weapons platform. Uses platform mode twice at the end

Shot of the protoforms arriving, some reused footage from first film. Some first film footage used with more prototforms added

The good -

SUPERB Special effects, truely amazing

The music score is great again, some lovely chior pieces

Optimus is solid, really kicks ass - As does Bumblebee when he tries!

Action, action, action!

Some lovely moments between Starscream and Megatron

The bad:-

Sam's mum getting stoned - Really annoying pointless scene

Alice - Pointless character and waste of screentime

And I am very, very, VERY sorry to say - Devastator. Totally pointless him being in the film. He doesn't get involved in the final battle and Simmons bringing him down is very WTF, by far Devastator biggest let down in movie

When Sam dies and goes to Autobot heaven - WTF???


Stuff different from trailers

(I have a pretty good photographic memory but I may be wrong)

Bumblebee never says "what is your purpose Sam" like in the Showest footage - I might be wrong about this one

Some of the Showest sections are different takes in final film

The military guy saying "Looks exactly like a truck" not in movie

Overall

I loved it, superb action at the end. I feel its equal to the first movie, not better and not worse

Looking forward to seeing it again!

Crap... Don't know what to say, sounds like it eaquals the first film but doesn't better it.

OH, Paul, I have been anxious to see "The Spacebridge" since hearibng you in 2006 on the TFTM commentary but it has never been up...

any word on when It will be?

 

Megatron/SCreamer first meet in what I'm guessin is the ruins of the Nemesis. Megatron bitches at him for leaving him to die. All very G1. Later on they fight on the roof after they have killed Prime. Prime cuts off Starscreams arm, that why he is carrying it. Megatron stomps on him and spins his tank tracks on his chest/face.

At the end Megatron blows half his own face off (forced by Prime) and begs Starscream to help him. Starscream says something like "sometimes it's the cowards that survive" as he helps Megatron away

No explanation why Starscream has the tattoos but he has been hanging out with the Fallen in the 2 years since first film so probably a sign of loyallty

 

If the Fallen is so powerful, how did Optimus beat the Fallen ?

 

Cool thanks for the heads up. I never trust people who say there is nothing wrong with a film just like I don't trust people who say everything about a film is crap. Well unless it's a Uwe Boll movie.

Anyway nice to hear the good, the bad, and the stuff in between so I'll have some idea of my reaction might be to it.

 

I just saw it in Leicester square also - would agree that it is neither better or worse than the first.

 

Prime is heavily powered up by Jetfires parts, Jetfore says he will be more powerfull than he ever was

He actually beats up the Fallen and Megatron at the same time.

He spears the fallen with his own weapon, then kinda rips his face off, then crushes his head.

Does Starscream get his arm ripped off my Megatron and get bitch slapped with it? and can you give a list of who dies?

 

Were there any cybertonian spaceships shown ? Did the Decepticons ever use spaceships to go to earth ?

 

How long is the big ass set piece at the end? Long as the first movies?

 

Is there more robot screen time? How much screen-time do the robots get, for example; are the robots featured for 2/3 or 1/3 of the movie?

How did you see it? I thought the UK premiere was on the 15th??

How good is the Transformers characterization? How good is the plot? Does the story flow? Are there less "groups" this time or just as many groups? Are the TFs mainly for the action scenes? What is the screen time given to the humans compared to the screen time given to the robots?

 

Is the Nemesis on Mars?

 

MUCH more robot screen time. I'd say 50:50 robots to humans at least, probably MORE robots if anything - Mainly Decepticons though they get more screen time

End battle is 40 minutes if not longer, does take a while to get going though

Prime cuts off Screamers arm, I think Megatron does hit him with it, but thats after the battle when they go to New York

 

Sounds meh to me.

So much for being the next Empire Strikes Back.
