Received Kre-O Starscream from Amazon today, and spent the better part of the evening putting him together into his jet mode. What follows is a brief overview of the process I went through tonight: Overview: The package itself comes with 316 pieces, not all of which were used for the construction of the jet. Two Kreons are included - a human pilot and Starscream himself. The pilot is meh - just a guy in a black flight suit, but the Starscream is very cool - down to the null rays you clip on his arms. I almost want to buy the two Primes to get Skywarp and Thundercracker...but I'll pray for blind packs rather than spend $100+ for two Kreons Pieces come separated into a few plastic bags that I ended up dumping out like I did with my Legos when I was a kid, and the instruction manual is very well done and very thick - over 60 steps to make the jet and the robot modes each! Pros: Love the Starscream Kreon, probably one of the best parts of the whole set. I like the jet mode as well, it has some nice details to it - a small heads up display and control sticks in the cockpit; the cockpit opens and closes; landing gear will fold up into the aircraft for when you want him flying around; on each side of the cockpit is the nametag "Starscream"; running lights. It's not an F-15, but it's a red, blue, and grey jet that resembles an F-15 so, good on them. Cons: STICKERS!!! AGHHHHH!!!! It comes with a sticker sheet - not what I wanted to see at age 40 with fat-finger syndrome Some of the stickers are quite small, and it can a challenge to try to get them just right. And once they get on a piece - they stick pretty good, so if you have to peel one off because you used the wrong piece on an earlier step (more on this later) - use an exacto knife or something else besides a fingernail to get it up, other wise the sticker will not look as nice as it did when you originally applied it. But the stickers do lend an extra bit of detail (such as the HUD in the cockpit and the name tags by the cockpit) so they're not terrible - but I'd rather I didn't have to apply them at all. I can also tell that it will take me a while to get this guy into robot mode because if I want to see that, I'll have to tear him all the way down then build him back up from scratch in the new mode. Finally, pay CAREFUL attention to the manual when it tells you what pieces you'll need for each step - most of the blocks in the set are either black, dark grey, or light grey. After a couple of hours, I was having to look two and three times to make sure of what color grey piece I needed - I ended up using a light grey piece for the HUD display (and applied a sticker on it) only to realize several steps later I was either short a piece or I should have used a similar dark grey piece. Some may not need to worry about this, but after a good bit of time spent looking at the manual and scrabbling for pieces, make sure you're getting the right pieces (BTW, the piece the HUD sticker applies to is DARK GREY). One last gripe - the head for the robot mode has blue eyes (despite the fact the robot on the front has red eyes). Now that I have Starscream together in jet mode, and I can sit back and appreciate him - I'm pleased with the result of my labors. He does look pretty good, and I love the Screamer Kreon. Recommendation: If you grew up with Legos, and you're a fan of Starscream - I say give this Kre-O a shot. No, it doesn't transform from jet to robot, but that doesn't bother me. I don't plan to transform him often, but I will take him to robot mode and then decide on which version I like best and then keep him there. I will probably buy at least one more Kre-O, possibly Jazz, later on down the road. Overall, a solid B+.
Um, do you have robot photos? and can we see more angles of the jet mode? Doubtful, unless you remove the wings.
I'll put up some more angles of jet mode as soon as I can, might try to convert to robot mode this weekend - problem is thats fairly time intensive and I've got a busy weekend ahead. Starscream can pilot himself, just remove the wings and null rays from the Kreon to put him in the cockpit.
The very reason BTR failed was because they tried to make figures that actually transformed. They've solved the problem, elegantly, by having two builds per kit.
I keep saying that. I still remember the disaster that was BTR. This is doomed to repeat. Anyone that buys at full price or more is crazy.
Gonna say I only cared for the mini figures for these I might buy the smaller sets to see how the build goes, but no way am I dropping more unless epic sales happen.
Huh. I could've sworn that at Toy Fair, it was stated that these WOULD be transformable without disassembly.
Dont see why everyone is hating on these you can build a nice vehicle mode then build a very nice robot mode with ball joints for very good posibility and such. reminds me of bionicle kinda. i can see why BTR failed but these seem better than lego actually even the kreon mini-figs are better than the lego ones with way more posibility but not as much as mega-blocks but still at least there are way more blocks at their price range than most lego sets lately so I for one say bravo Hasbro on making such an inventive building set than lego
whilst they don't transform I can see myself getting at least one of the larger kits I think. You can't really compare the kreons to lego minifigures, the fact that kreo only came into existence this year and lego minifigures have been around since the 1970s... I find it quite interesting how people are just saying kreo and saying legos. If people are going to put an inncorrect 's' at the end of Lego why aren't they doing the same with Kreo?
Lego is enjoying MASSIVE success in the last few years, with its wide range of product offerening, and its great ability to jump onto any trend, bandwagon, or movie license fast and make product for it. as a matter of fact, I would go so far as to say that these days, LEGO has the MOST shelf presence at any toys store or retail store. At TRU they have about 3 aisles dedicated to lego. at wallys and meijers, its usuallly one single aisle, nuthin but lego. If Hasbro can get in there and start selling em...they will do great, and this will pave the way to GIJOE legas of this quality..NOT for GIJOE figures..just GIJOE Kreons..THAT would work better that BTR by far I dont know how many of you collect legos, or have kids, but I LOOK at them...I dont buy..they ARE VERY expensive toys.Yes, very high quality, and great toys for kids that build creative skills. I think its a great idea to offer these. they WORK with lego...they have a license that lego cant get...I think the kids that love legos WILL try at least one of these, and if they all look as good as starscream and megatron...Hasbro may have a new permenent spot in the lego aisle.
