    Platinum Edition- Autobots United

Just picked this up today and thought I'd do a quick review of the figures for those interested in the box sets. Because they're all simply redecoes and have previously been reviewed at length, I'll just gloss over the details of each figure. I'll try and detail all the changes, although my only experience with any of these figures previously is with Evolutions Optimus. I'll try and let the pictures do the talking!

I picked it up at Myer in Australia for $134. (150 with 10% discount)

The figures come in a really nice display box with an opening flap revealing the figures inside. Everything is on show really nicely to the point where it was a bit of a shame to open up. Unfortunately Myer in their wisdom wrapped it up in a security device so the sides of my box were damaged.

First up is the leader of the bunch, you know him well! (Because he's been released in 100 different versions!) He's the outsider of the group: instead of a premium movie-accurate deco, he is a straight-up G1 homage, which I think really should've been with the Evolutions pack instead of here. He's got the silver stripe, the blue hands and feet, a black shot gun and even the shoulder Autobot logos! He's one of the few releases with a face-plate, too. The details on his head are beautiful!

Here is compared to Evolutions Prime, which I'm sad to say is the only comparison I can make with any of these figures (or not sad to say really, because it means I didn't waste my money on the inaccurate decos). Evolutions Prime seems to be supposed to be based on the coloration of Prime's second AOE body, rather then a rusty or G1 look. You can see how much the AU one pops compared to it!

Alt-Mode furthers the G1 homage, with all the color-cues being in the right places.

Next is Bumblebee, who has a lot more black in comparison to his regular release. Out of all of them, he has the least amount of changes in robot mode, although he was the figure I was most looking forward too! The gun now looks a lot more like the claw gun, thanks to the additional black paint. Unfortunately his battle mask is still lacking the right paint for the eyes, so it looks like its blocking his vision more then anything else.

The biggest change in alt mode is that the stripe finally goes all the way across the vehicle, although it does a lot in making him look more accurate.

Drift is changed quite a lot in robot mode, with silver swords and a lot more black! He looks far, far better then the original release and is probably the one that's benefited the most from this Platinum release.

... Comparatively, the alt-mode is lacking. The blue is still way, way too light to properly represent how he looked in the movie. Heck, I'd say he was more black then blue and would've been much happier with all the dark blue be replaced with black.

Crosshairs is a different green and sports a few more green details on his legs. Not hugely different from the regular release in robot mode outside of his green feet. The biggest change is more apparent in vehicle mode.

... Where he finally has stripes on both sides of his alt-mode. Hurrah!

Hound is a lighter green and finally has his camo print. He sports a few additional silver paint apps as well. The Takara Blu Ray version really trumps this guy in terms of accuracy, though.

In alt-mode the camo print is far more apparent. He also has his star decal, but is sadly lacking the pin-up girl. Boo.

And that's it! At $150, I think this is definitely worth it for us Aussies (who are paying $25-30 for Deluxes and $40-50 for Voyagers anyway, making this a CHEAPER option) but I can understand if that's a pretty high asking price for US buyers. It'll soon be avaliable via BBTS, who I assume will have it for about $120, which is a good price and Robot Kingdom had it for $120, but are currently Sold Out.

God, as an American I cannot justify paying 120 for this set. The paint apps aren't any better and truthfully, as an American I can get these guys and the reprolabels sets for a bit more than 120 total and have figures that look a hell of a lot better, as Reprolabels provides very high detail decals for alt and robot modes.

    Damn.

If this set was 80 or even 100 I'd bite but not at 120.

Sadly I've started losing interest in this set.

BBTS and TRU may have waited too long to release this to get me to buy it.

Wait, $150?! How much was the Breakout Battle? I could've sworn that was $170.

It's on sale for $150, normal price is the insanely lulzy $250, but I assume that only existed so they can be all "save $100!". They're also selling that crappy FE Prime and ROTF Swerve 2-Pack for $200 "down from $300".

Oh. That explains it. Well, 22 a Deluxe and 42 a Voyager? That's quite reasonable by Australian standards. Especially Myer. I might pick it up.

    Looks good.

Im afraid its a bit late for me to get all excited about though. This should have bust out with wave 2 or 3. Now I could care less. Yes they look good but I see no real reason to buy this stuff twice just for some really minor changes. Besides drift they dont pop like the 1st images I seen. Mabye because the stuff has been out too long.
If I were a misb collector I could see myself enjoying this for that.

It will take one hell of a sale and a coupon or two on top go me to even consider engaging in this set.

shoulda been the retail releases. no excuse for not putting the stripes on crosshairs, the camo on hound or the faceplate on OP the first time around except for trying to see how much money they can drag out...

I just realized, Crosshairs has Ninja Turtles feet (this version makes it more visible with green feet and painted toes)

I feel dumb, is there really no Voyager "Knight" Optimus? Only the "Rusty" one?

You'd think they'd replace it with something. It just looks weird now, too bottom-heavy. Even just move the missile up a little...

Hound's green is also really similar to Crosshairs' now.

And yeah, Drift really should've been black. "But he's a really, really, really dark blue"... feh! He looks black so make him that.

I agree with people that this release is pretty late and that all the movie hype is dying down at this point. Most people that wanted these figures already have them and without movie hype I'm sure a lot lack the incentive for the accurate decos. I've been holding off buying the entirety of the AOE Autobots for this and even I had to think a lot about it before buying it, when previously I was super, super excited for the set. I think the timing is completely based around Christmas. Now is the time parents are looking to buy toys and $150 for 5 figures becomes a bit easier for them to swallow. I know that's really weird for something so clearly aimed at adults though!

Still, Drift sells it for me. He's an unexpected gem! I really love him and the colors of the robot mode are just so much better then the regular release.

Yeah, strangely enough there's only the First Edition Leader, the Generations Leader and fifty million redecoes of the Evasion Voyager.

Great review man i was actually for a picture review of this set, i was supposed to buy this set when i only had Voyager prime and hound but now i almost complete this cast except for the newer BB version. But now im still debating for a different reason to get this sets, to have this premium version of this guys. Any plans on getting the AOE dinobot platinum 5 pack set?

Nah, I have the SDCC Dinobot set as well as the regular release of the on-screen four and I'm one of the few that likes the gaudy color schemes. If I was really into getting a movie accurate set, I'd prefer the Takara Black Knight ones. Not a huge fan of the clear plastic used on the Unleashed set.

Hell yeah. Just look at am! Friggen fantastic set of decals. They still need to do Hound and modern Bee, but Crosshairs, Drift, leader and Evasion Prime look fantastic with reprolabels.
