He sure does. These renders are pretty sweet thanks to TFChronos Trying to obtain funding by other means. Good things is we thought we only had it until next month but turns out we will have it until April of 2016. A huge part of the kickstarter backing was specifically for two things. Licensing and Render engines. Render engines take up a huge chunk of the backing. We def will not be able to render the images like the ones scene above if we don't get render engines. Thank so much for taking interest in the project. As you can see from the start of this thread we are almost 2 years into production. We are not making any major changes to any part of the project at this point. But thank again for wanting to contribute. Yes there is an there's a good chance he may show up in the sequels if we get there. Yes guys, we've already got a total of 11 new characters. We don;t want to overload the story with new characters. The more we add the less time we get to develop them. The Autobots already outnumber the Decepticons so we want to try and even things up as much as possible. The characters we do have are developed nicely and we will get to hear hints about their past and how they came to the current situations they are in. For existing characters, we'll get to see more progression from them as well. Bumblebee and Arcee have gone up in ranks. A unexpected hero will emerge and have a huge impact and show his transformation. Others will continue to support their roles but add some additional backgrounds which make it all just a little more exciting.
Glad to hear that you still have time to get the funding for the renders and licensing Grim. It'll help a lot especially if you need to get the funding through other means.
Hey there guys. Here are some cool renders of Ultra Magnus. Cool character who I'm glad made it on to the show.
Those renders are looking very sharp guys. Since this is being done in Blender (which I don't know), is there an occlusion process like there is in MODO? I'm not talking about ambient occlusion as render output, but as an actual process, similar to ink lines used in a toon shader setup. If it's set to convexity and / or concavity, it simulates dirty edges. This is how I was able to get the worn edges affect on Cyclonus. The idea is to use the occlusion as a mask to show subtle paint chipping (can be simulated with a noise) without having the thing tile across the whole mesh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX4_God-u5U About 9 minutes in, Ellery starts getting into how the occlusion process is used in his layered materials tutorial. Not sure how much can be applied to Blender though.
Okay, there is another way to do it in Blender, but it involves using Vertex maps. The downside is that you generally have to subdivide your mesh to a much higher resolution since the way vertex mapping works is there is a gradual falloff of the influence from the weighted edge of a polygon to the unweighted. So the midpoint distance would show an influence of 50%. I'm not sure how ideal this method is, especially if you're planning to use the low-res model as a control cage to up the level of resolution without having to freeze geometry (though I suppose you could freeze each subdivision level and then rig an on / off switch for visibility that's toggled relative to the camera distance from object).
That's a really clever way to get that effect. I don't think Blender has anything like that specifically, with it's internal render engine at least. Cycles might have something similar but I don't know enough about it yet. I might try tinkering with the toon shader like you said to see if I can duplicate it in a way. As for the project it's still being made with Softimage. I'm just doing promotional renders with Blender while the animation is being done.
Happy Sunday everyone! Another week, another tech spec. This week, we have Smokescreen. Stay tuned for more. Our kickstarter has 16 days left, which you can find here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/388967528/transformers-prime
Someone get the Dark Energon. I think Spiritprime just died of fangasm overdose. On topic, lovely work again Grimm. I'll probably preserve this in my archives.
Hey there guys, We've got some great renders of our favorite bot. He's def grown from the beginning of the season to the end and in our story he will continue to grow. Enjoy the pics guys
