So I saw them pics of the TF4 Optimus toy and well I got excited and had to sketch the guy [cuz he looks awesome!] :3
dude, i know you are super popular, and well known in the transformers community, and of course you have done even artwork for actual toys and so but dude you used to do better than this, and by this i mean, not only this prime but your las what...20 pieces? dont get me wrong, it looks good, and so all your work, is just i is not as good as it was im just being sincere, pleas dont take this in the wrong way
stone, it is not, have you seen his whole deviantart gallery? im not talking about the lines, is the style is so simplistic it hurts
Ah no worries guys What do you think I should do different or improve on? I'm all as far as ears for constructive crits go
I say make it more movie verse. Add those small and big details. Other than that.............nerd-gasm!!!
Well let's see, we only got pics three hours ago. So in three hours he needed to have seen the toy, study the toy, sketch, ink, colour and post this. This is, maximum, a three hour drawing. (provided he started RIGHT as the image went up) I wish I could do anything half this nice in three hours. I completely understand constructive critism, but this isn't really constructive to the actual piece. I respect your stance but I think the whole "last 20 pieces" is uncalled for.
My friend, you are made of win. While I don't think the toy is bad, if the robot mode looked like that, I would buy it yesterday.
Stonecrusher, publicly displayed art is designed for other people's consumption, for other people to look at and get some kind of a reaction from, everyone is by definition entitled to judge. Especially in a forum like this, where constructive criticism is the norm. Also remember that every positive comment in the thread is also just as much a judgement as a negative one. Just looking at a piece of art means that you are judging it.. everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinion, it's just a question of how that opinion is expressed (see below). Primusunicron, Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, by last 20 pieces you mean art like this (ie things that aren't a sketch)? If you have to say 'please don't take this the wrong way', it means you're saying it in the wrong way. Telling someone that you think their work has gone downhill is not productive. Telling them what you think would make you like it more is highly productive. Every artist wants to improve, no person wants to be put down. As for the whole last 20 pieces thing, and the detail comments. I assume that if you're including pieces like the devastator one above that what you're seeing is the difference between Josh now creating art from scratch, compared to his most commonly seen work, which is colouring other people's lines. So essentially you're saying "I preferred it when you coloured other people's work to you doing it yourself". There's nothing wrong with thinking that, but even if that is what you think, it's still not either a nice or helpful thing to say to someone. Instead think about the reasons why you prefer one style over another, and give some helpful suggestions of what it is that you like.
