I never thought of that. I never consider buying stuff with prints on it. Even then i think i draw the line 3p figures which just like the original artworks have their own work vested in them.

Returning back to topic, that guy would make a nice TF Prime Unicron stand-in :)

Would be nice if zeta included two of the mouth pieces that go with the stand so the stand could still look cool and you could use the add on mouth.

    - Toy collectors aren't out there doxxing and harassing people, not yet anyway. As far as geek fanboys are concerned, we're not that bad in the grand scheme of things.
    - Budgeting well usually implies NOT dropping $600 on a big hunk of plastic, especially when better and cheaper alternatives exist.
    - Maybe, but IP theft is hardly some kind of crime against humanity and the existence of a vibrant 3P scene has undoubtedly helped Hasbro more than it has hurt them.

Companies just need to learn that simply holding a copyright doesn't mean you get to rest on your laurels and collect huge profits for mediocre work in perpetuity. If the demand for something better is there, other companies will step in and fill that void, legality be damned. Transformers has been from the beginning a crass commercial exercise that has always sought to leverage existing assets over creating anything original simply for the sake of getting as much product out there as possible. Turning around and claiming that 3P toys are some kind of an insult to starving artists is just self-evidently absurd.

Unicron: I am the destroyer of worlds!
Bumbleebee: Awww, who's an adorable little chaos bringer?
    Unicron: Fear me!
Bumblebee: Now, now. Your threatening posture is highly dubious there, little buddy.

I'm glad you raised the point about why people actually care about these figures in the first place. I don't know about anyone else, but if it hadn't been for Bob Budiansky and others at Marvel I probably wouldn't have had any interest in the toys. I certainly wouldn't be collecting them thirty five years later. Christ, Hasbro didn't even design the things originally; they just imported an existing line and paid others to come up with the mythology.

Frankly if I were this designer I'd be embarrassed that a 3P company has produced a better looking figure. Perhaps he should concentrate more on improving his own work and making it an attractive option, rather than blaming the people who ultimately pay his bills for not blindly supporting any old crap just because it's 'official'. I'd happily support official products (and indeed I do) when they actually make ones that interest me. Unfortunately they seem so focused on remaking the same few characters over and over, if it weren't for 3P I'd be in my grave before I got anywhere near completing my collection.

A load of sanctimonious crap. I wonder how many 3P figures he owns? Also, Hasbro is so 'anti 3P' it's partnered with one of the UK's leading importers of 3P figures to act as a distributor. I can only assume the irony is lost on them...

But they did. Don't you remember the little Titanium version? He looks like he's just about to serve, kicking off the Cybertronian Volleyball Championships.

The Zeta at fault for everything dynamic got me reminiscing about another famous scene:

After seeing a piecing light in the shadows, drawn by its hue Zeta approaches cautiously....

    Zeta: ‘8000 pre orders?’

Haslab: ‘It will do you no good Zeta Toys, it cannot be reached!’

    Zeta: ‘Speak for yourself Haslab’

Haslab: ‘Like it or not, we are allies now. Against the common foe.......’

Suddenly, engulfed in pain, Haslab screams.

Hasbro: ‘Destroy him Haslab, NOW!!!! Or you yourself will be obliterated’

    Haslab: ‘Of course, my master’.

Haslab fires at Zeta who promptly takes cover, disappearing into the darkness.

Haslab: ‘PUNY COMPANY, YOUR FIGURE LACKS OUR FIGURES KIBBLE!!!!’

Maybe part of the deal to become the “Official Haslab Partner” is an agreement not to sell Zetacron.

Is this figure still moving forward? Or are we ignoring that for now?
