The wings/ring still looks too small and the planet mouth is off putting, but I like the bot mode. It’s surprisingly clean compared to the Haslab version.
Huh, looks cool. Definitely buying it, but Haslab's still has something that makes me like it more, IDK what, but it does. The planet mode, of course, is nothing compared to Hasbro's. The wings on the bot mode are too small. I'll get both. Neither should be called bad.
Slap a sold sticker on that beautiful bastard cos I'm in!
He’s got an articulated mouth. A pretty, pretty little mouth.
It looks like the third wing spine thing just sits behind the ring in planet mode.
No 80 folden panels on the back of his leg, no 'Siege' finish, no 100 spikes on the side.
Yep, I'm in fo shizzle.
Edit: plus half the price of the Haslab mortgage.
AMAZING. Look at how much of him is formed from parts of the planet surface!! If he's as solid as he looks, the engineering is work of genius.
For instance, I don't know how, but those two segments near the top of the planet apparently become his chestplate in bot mode. You can see the jagged seam where they join, and the sculpted details are identical:
I cannot WAIT to see the transformation. As near as I can tell, one leg forms the top of the planet, the other leg forms the bottom, while the arms form the sides of the equator and the torso splits to fill in the sections in between. And I just realized... the planet mouth becomes his COLLAR.
Now THAT'S a transformer.
Interesting, now is definitely more clear how this is going to work and what you are trading for the cleaner bot mode. Hope we'll see the final colours soon.
It has some sort of collar as well, like XTB Andras.
Some quick comps...
The engineering looks great, bot mode is solid but as others have said his alt mode is pretty weak. I do find him to be a bit plain as well, he's missing something. Maybe it's the lack of spikes, I'm not sure but he just seems too clean. Along with him being on the small side I don't think I have a place for this guy but I'm glad others are digging him. If this works as your Unicron than more power to you, in the end he's just not for me.
oooooh, Thats what looks off to me! He doesn't have any planet bits in bot mode to show he came from a planet and doesn't have enough detail for something the size of a planet.... thats what looks off to me.
Anyone want to have a go at shopping some colour on to it?
There are planet bits all over it they're just more subtle, the side parts of the feet, backs of the legs the and sides of the arms for instance.
The missing arm and shoulder spikes is a bit of a turn off for me being such a massive Unicron Fan of old.
I also really hate those wings, they just look way too spindly, short and thin. Like Pasda Noodles hanging off his shoulders.
The rest of the figure looks reeeeeally interesting. I like how it seems they were able to collapse various planetoid crust panels onto the various lim areas to create the actual limbs themselves. I do hate the fact all the craters are just mirrored from each other. (probably to save a ton of money on molds) Part of what makes Unicron's original design such and interesting visual spectacle to me is how nothing is really mirrored. all his surface details in both planet and robot mode are all so different from each and every little piece. like the character model sheet shows.
On the positive there's so much going on that Harkens to his original movie design that I also love.
the knee area, the legs themselves, the torso, though it's still lacking his proper torso from his movie design, which is a huge bummer to me.
His back is the front so... leaves much to be desired since his back should actually look more like this which is clearly much different than his front (other than the red panels in his lower back area there) Admittedly I'm also annoyed designer contiue to ignore the fact he's got a built in Rocket Pack full of Boosters back there:
Wow, that's really nice looking. If he were the size of the Hasbro one I might take it instead.
Where are those dipwads who kept calling this "vaporware" now?
Well yeah, I see them, but stuff like the legs on haslabs weirdly works for me cause its clear he's a giant Robot that turns into a planet, while this one seems off-puttingly smooth. (and yes i disliked the smoothness of the 80's model for the same reasons. I know, heresy to the highest degree). Another thing is the symmetry to him when Unicron always had A-symmetrical parts to him.
Zeta make the fucking wings bigger. I don't care if the figure overall is smaller than the Haslab version.
I would cancel my preorder for the Haslab if we got bigger Zeta wings!
