Don't mention the kibble on the Haslab thread. They've all agreed to pretend that it doesn't exist, and have torches and pitchforks ready for anyone who disagrees.

Also, don't mention that the kibble weighs around 10lbs. Or that the weight of that figure and the stand will crush their detolfs. Or, really anything remotely realistic about it. It's a fascinating cult mentality that goes beyond "Hey, I like this toy" and well into "You're threatening my worldview."

I've seen the exact same behavior in this thread, it ain't mutually exclusive to that thread. Its all about how you word it and how much of an ass, or respectful individual you come off as when you critique something.

Was there ever a transformation video on Star Core before it was deleted? I know there’s still one up somewhere but it only shows articulation.

The link to video is only 6 minutes long.....I think this is the ☝︎ I was referring to earlier about only showing articulation.

When I click it it is just over 19 minutes long. Don't know why it redirects for you.

I see the time stamp, however when I play the video, it abruptly ends at 6 minutes. Also the time shows only 6 minutes when the video starts to play.

Except there really isn't anything to critique Zeta's about. We can speculate on the colors, and that may be an issue.

But it's fine, they got what they wanted. I don't appreciate the sore winners, but it doesn't really apply to me except that they're showing their asses and when called out about it, the *buy they started it!" comes out in spades.

    Churlish.

    There always is.

an example is how the planet doesn't look all that good and the details are too soft for my tastes. In bot mode I feel he needs more panel lining and bigger wings.

It is all hidden by the Pringles potato chip-plates in bot mode. Not. Stack em and pack em. And let's not forget his shell home he carries around on his back.

I think it goes beyond that. With the whole campaign promising that this is a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity, and the "Be a part of history" angle, there is definitely some group exclusionism going on. Like with over-hyped sports fans or religious fundamentalists, there is a certain subset of fans that make backing Unicron a MAJOR (for the time being, anyway) part of their identity. I think that the hefty price contributes to a cognitive dissonance about it, in that "If I'm paying THIS MUCH for a toy, it HAS to be the greatest thing ever!" That cognitive dissonance carries over to interactions, and something like the kibble becomes a conflict. There have been LOTS of issues with LOTS of other transformer figures, including hollowness of Fort Max's legs and MP Tracks in general, and none of them get the vitriol seen here. Plus, there have been LOTS of other third-party figures that compete with official releases, but none spark outrage like Core Star. Nobody got upset that Magic Square and Transform Element compete with MP-44, but people are ok with complaining about price and the enormous backpack for MP-44.

I really think that the cognitive dissonance element was what sold Haslab Unicron. It's a huge, expensive figure with a lot of flaws, but people are willing to fight over it.

Did Zeta ever say how much they were going to sell star core for?

That would be funny if at the very last second of the crowdfund, several thousand orders get cancelled. Which would make the total amount less than 8,000.

Half or less than the Hasbro one. All that kibble added a lot to the cost. :lol

Finally was able to watch the video I had missed. I love how everything folds in and tucks away cleanly on Zeta's :)

From last night to today, the majority of comments in the HasLab thread about Zeta's Unicron have in fact been *positive*:

"I’m actually hoping the Zeta ban gets lifted because I need a Unicron fix soon since I have to wait over a year for this incredible figure. Zeta should fill the gap nicely and the bot mode is sleek."

"There's still a market for the Zeta one. It will be made."

"You always have Zeta Toys as an option. Where there is a will there is a way."

"Congratulations everyone. Awesome that he's actually getting produced. And now I can hopefully get the Zeta version for myself :D "

That thread was operating the way TFW2005 should, whether you're on the first-party board or the third-party board. People were just happy such a unique Transformers toy was being made. No fighting, no snark, no "sore winners," no ragging on third-party toys or fans. Just a celebration of a toy. This thread right now, on the other hand...

I'm genuinely interested in seeing new developments on Zeta's toy, and I've been dipping my feet into third-party waters again, but I'm seeing a lot of time/energy wasted here trash-talking HasLab's Unicron and "those fans." Which, hey, it's a discussion forum and you have a right to say whatever you want. But it'd be great if this thread focused more on news about this toy rather than on dissing the other one and the people who backed it. Otherwise, you're just doing what you're accusing the other side of doing and reinforcing the sort of divisive clannishness that drives people away from the third-party board.

Also don't refute the Hasbro-created marketing idea that ordering the toy is an "event". Apparently entering credit card data in an online form, and clicking submit, is the modern equivalent to the second coming of (insert deity name here). I just don't get it.

Same for it being "history" (ie, historically significant for the franchise, which I highly doubt). Rarely does the claim of "history in the making" equate to more than a blip or footnote, if that, when the future determines what is and is not significant history.

Lots of hyperbole. Reminds me of 13-year-old girls.

What amazes me is that usually-toxic Facebook has been more sensible and amicable to pro/con analysis posts than the main TFW Haslab thread. If you say anything that isn't positive there, some members pull out pitchforks.

I saw your post this morning, before I pulled out my tape measure, to confirm my decision not to back. I also watched the Youtube transform videos. The most off-putting thing to me was that some of the kibble is the size of my hand. My hand! I remember BSF talking about it being chips/Pringles, but it's more like slices of bread. Ugh.
