The shuttle mode is at least a lot better than whatever FT attempt was.

So it's not even that good. I feel that Fanstoys should have gone all the way and tried to do it correct. Even though most people are gonna stand Thomas on a shelf in bot mode it would have been part of the accuracy they aim for.

What!? Are Thomas's train wheels unable to move or can't work as train wheels are supposed to?

Yeah. I don't like FT's shuttle mode either. Too narrow and pointy for my liking.

What I don't like about the FT version is how the cockpit protrudes from the fuselage rather than blending with it. Sometimes G1 accuracy can ruin a good alt mode.

The vehicle modes were always the standout, but this thing suffered pretty bad.

You're right. That's annoying too. Both of our gripes about the shuttle are probably connected.

I think Earthrise Astrotrain even beats this guy. I guess they get kudos for recycling.

The clear red parts kill it.

Caught this guy last time he went on sale for $35. honestly the for that price it was well worth it. I have my gripes with this figure but they are minor compared to how I feel about other astrotrains that I own. Biggest issues I have are feet design and one of the wheel shafts doesn't plug in train mode. He can also be a bit difficult to transform if certain joints are to tight.

I’m a reasonably big Astrotrain fan who goes out of my way to get most figures of the character... and even with that, Toyworld’s was the version I for which I never felt any draw. Its proportions in bot mode are just offputting somehow... the lankiness, the long torso combined with a teeny head, the curved tapering ankles, the squared-off wings... it wasn’t great when it first showed up and has aged even more poorly.

That being said, the alt modes are great, and that’s a laudable achievement on a triplechanger.

I dunno... if I ever see this on deep, deep discount I might try it out, just because it’s an Astrotrain. But It’s sure not something I’ll be scrambling to pick up.

At first I was like "Oh watch, this will be the Astrotrain I wanted now that I have a Thomas locked down for me." Then I saw it and I was like "Oh.....well.....it's...yeah. o_O "

On the upside it does have a very nice shuttle mode I suppose. :D

Dang, so much hate for this figure. I agree the bot mode doesn't have the best proportions and I could do without the red translucent bits but I bought the original TW black & white version and then switched it out for a TW gray & purple and always thought it was a pretty solid effort. The engineering is straight gonzo.

Agreed! It's usually a given any time you have a triple-changer that at least one mode (or more) will be sacrificed, but it's really odd that with this figure, it's actually the bot mode that seems to have been the sacrifice, while the train and shuttle modes look incredible. Considering up until Thomas releases, Chighurh and Transportation Captain were the only other competition, both of which didn't really stand out as very impressive, not least as faithful to G1 animation at all.

Both the shuttle and train mode get 10/10 from me. Love the overall details and the silver paint on train train wheel looks magnificent. On the other hand, the robot frontal view proportion is a disappointment, he's too slender and the abdominal/body design is way off, 4/10. The robot back, looks good. As of now, both FT Thomas and MFT Iron Sky are the 2 best Astrotrain....even the Siege version looks good too.

I have the TFCon version of the original and he's pretty fantastic. Alt modes are from a time when real world accuracy was appreciated. And the bot mode is unmistakably Astrotrain.

For the price, not bad. Wished they used flat colors instead of the glittery finish.
