It’s a pretty fucking sad day when GameStop/EB Games is outperforming another retailer.

ESPECIALLY given that toys are just a side business for them.

The UK itself shouldn’t be impacted by this, as we had Pulse set up in time for this particular HasLab.

However, Zavvi is a UK based business, which used to be the Virgin Megastore. It was acquired by ‘The Hut Group’ when it went bust (no surprises there), and has been owned by them for years. Looking at what one of the owners might have done, it’s no surprise it’s a bit dodgy.

I’d say it’s most likely to just be sheer incompetence on their side, rather than Hasbro. Or they’re about to go under again.

I know that they directly work with Hasbro but is it possible that they had Star Saber listed for pre-order long than they should have and that's how they messed up on reporting final numbers?

Between this, orders in Taiwan being cancelled, and leakers having factory connections I hope that they have contingencies for this for Deathsaurus.

I'm in the U.S. and I have no intention of ever purchasing a star saber, but anyway - I don't believe anyone will ever know what actually happened. Did Hasbro hold back a bunch of star sabers to solve QC issues? Did they stop shipments until QC issues are resolved? Did someone just make a simple clerical error? I don't think we'll ever know.

I think where this is heading is something like: "We're sorry for this unfortunate situation, and we look forward to exceeding your expectations on future orders of exciting and unique Haslab products. Even though this situation, while frustrating, couldn't have been avoided, and we guarantee we took the best possible actions in a difficult situation, here is a 10% coupon good toward any purchase on our website as a sign that we acknowledge your frustration and the immense value we place on our customers."

But I wish everyone good luck and hope you get what you want out of this craziness.

Leaning towards this being a problem with the retailer Zavvi than Hasbro since no other company has had this issue and everyone who ordered straight from Hasbro got their VS without any issues. Not sure what Zavvi did but most likely didn’t provide the correct number of orders to Hasbro.

Since this is most likely an issue with Zavvi, Hasbro is 100% not obligated to make any more VS or provide compensation to the people who ordered through Zavvi. It sucks but if this is truly Zavvi’s fault than why should Hasbro have to pay for their mistake.

I'd argue they need to have a discussion about their professional relationship with Zavvi and what can be done. In my industry if one of the people selling our product messed up this badly, we'd be having a Big Discussion. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a company cut off for messing up

(and, y'know, it would be good optics to do a small secondary run to handle this company who were supposed to be doing this on your behalf and the whole Taiwan issue, especially given Zavvi's response at the moment is 'eh whatever let Hasbro take the blame' when its their fault)

If it comes to light that this is a significant # of unfulfilled orders combined with the lost shipment to Taiwan, I think they should open a new Star Saber preorder. Set the bar at 5,000 orders or whatever makes sense to cover setting up the line again. They will make a small profit and earn a lot of good will in the community and towards future haslab projects. The few complaints of “But they said it was never to be remade!” will be drowned out by the cheers from everyone that would have missed out otherwise.

More like only Zavvi could screw up an order. Why would Hasbro miscount when the whole project depends on accurate counts for budgeting reasons.

It's almost like Zavvi completely botched the whole thing. And that's why it sucks. Because they knew who's orders were cancelled but Hasbro doesn't.

Unless they can figure out how to get Zavvi to hand that info over so they know how many were missed. But it's pretty clear even Zavvi doesn't have that straight.

Hasbro needs to stop doing business with Zavvi. As I understand it this isn't the first time they have done something like this.

I haven't really paid too much attention to this project, but I'm curious, what were the issues that arose with the figure itself and water damage?

WTF!? Wow, this is so crappy! I feel sorry for all the fans in Europe who were excited to receive this and backed the Deathsaurus.

How did they handle Unicron? How come that didn't run into issues?

Apparently some of the figures became water damaged during transit...not sure of the details...but some customers (hundreds or low thousands, maybe) didn't receive their copies because of it. I think the affected customers were located somewhere in Asia. From what I understand, their money was refunded and they received one of those Alpha Trion/Orion Pax sets as consolation.

The issues surrounding the figures themselves range from poor paint apps and defective chrome to missing parts, duplicate parts (like two right arms, for example), poor functionality and some molding errors. There's a thread on the subject here: Haslab Victory Saber Qc issues

It's just been kind of a mess on a number of fronts with this release. The Zavvi situation still isn't fully understood...as in we aren't sure if Zavvi is at fault, Hasbro is at fault or a little of both. Hopefully we get some clarification.

The water damage wasn’t really because of the water getting on the figures, but more the fact that the boxes got soaked and couldn’t support weight so a lot came crashing down on top of others.

Frankly, the Taiwan shipment problem was already reason enough for Hasbro to do a second run, if they don’t consider it now its straight negligence and basically shows Hasbro does not give a flying fuck about any potential customers outside the US.

And considering Zavvi’s pulled this shit for Haslabs in the past!? They need to be blacklisted, not only by collectors, but from any line of distribution.

    I got mine.

Seriously though, I think Hasbro will find a way to fullfill these orders.

Zavvi is assho...These people should sue Zavvi for not placing their pre-order.

It would be kind of fun following the trial.

I'd be thinking "Cool, Transformers are on Court TV." Transformers is in the news.
