If you could pick one issue of James Roberts run to either sum up the series or was just an amazing issue what we would it be?

    Mine is mtmte#6.

Fort max, rung the big reveal at the end. Cracking issue.

For me it will always be #14-#15 (I really consider them one story split by page count).

The flashbacks. The twists and turns through Overlord's mind. The reversal of fortune for Chromedome. The heartbreaking, but brutal (seriously, read that sad inner monologue) death of Pipes. The super high stakes for characters we know are about to potentially lose everything we've seen them building up for the past two years... not knowing it's the fault of their allies. And of course the sacrifice an innocent bot made for his lover and friends.

It just had everything that I think can make a Roberts story shine. World building, history, twists, gray morals, excitement, dread, secrets, broken relationships, loss... And it never went overboard in any of those departments (no pun intended).

I've reread those two issues so many times, and was hoping the last stand against the DJD was going to play out the same, but that arc leaned too hard into Roberts pervasive comedy dialogue to feel as weighty and important.

Ooh, that's really tough. Yeah, maybe #15? It's a tough call. I mean, the Pharma issues... Shadowplay... Remain In Light... This was a really amazing series for the first 20 some odd issues. Like, extraordinary.

    Easy for me MTMTE #13.

Though the Elegant Chaos arc is right up there too.

I loved the whole series, but one of my favorite issues was Cybertronian Homesick Blues. I love Swerve's narration.

I love the shadow play stuff because the way Orion Pax is written might be my favorite character in all of IDW. I also loved Overlord vs the Entire Lost Light and Fort Max getting a little payback.

I think my favorite might be the issue with the Scavengers running for their lives from Fort Max, lot of dynamics and character development in that issue.

I'll probably have a harder think on this, but 4-5 are what hooked me on the series. The annual probably means the most to me because of the Swerve stuff, but 4-5 are probably in general higher. Ratchet and Drift, Pipes discovering the universe and setting up a crushing callback, LSOTW stuff, Pharma, the mystery, DJD hints, I just love it all.

For the longest time, I could only find vol. 1-2. I read them over and over.

Issue #11’s last page remains to this day the most mind blowing reveal I’ve ever seen in comics. Come at me

And the recent reveal in OP #17 serves as a nice companion piece to that.

The entire Shadowplay arc is amazing, so the conclusion of it is prooobably my single favorite issue.

Interiors, easily. It's both the blueprint for the entire run and the height that it never quite acheives again.

Once I saw this thread I decided to re-read this issue and God DAMN it is still excellent. Obviously not every issue could be this dour, but I just wish every issue Roberts wrote could have been this well constructed and paced. Roche definitely elevates it here. Milne grew tremendously as an artist on MTMTE, but Roche just has a mastery of character acting and expression on another level.

The Gloaming (#16) is easily one of my favourite ever issues of MTMTE/LL. Rewind's recording to Chromedome was beautifully written and presented so well. The mournful chat between Chromedome and Brainstorm. And the Magnus flashbacks! Peak MTMTE.

It's not officially a MTMTE/LL book, but it had to be Spotlight: Hoist. Swerve's endless prattle covering up his pending death and his preference for everyone to be annoyed with him rather than realize he's dying was particularly interesting to me, as well as Hoist more or less barbecuing every crew member with this succinct monologue:
