Yeah a tank makes most sense to me. Runner up would be something like a Tomahawk chopper. Something beefy like that.

I'm a pretty hardcore G1 purest but big bad leader turning into tiny defenseless gun that needs to be held never sat right with me. Put me down for tank.

Though I have spent a great deal of time trying to think of an airplane that would suit him so he'd be in line with the other flying Decepticons. But no plane ever seems as menacing as a tank. Closest would probably be an A-10 Thunderbolt II/Warthog (ironically known as the tank killer) but tank is still more intimidating IMO.

 

Even though my love for G1 is undeniable, and being a gun seemed cool at the time, analyzing it as a grown up, tank makes more sense.
Nowadays even on Earth I would prefer a Megatron with a cybertronian alt mode cause he frankly doesn't give an F if you see him coming or not, so a disguise is pointless IMO. Have him be a funky cybertronian tank.

 

That's why the original writtng in G1 was brilliant. It was left up to the Ark's computer to assign them all Earth alt-modes while they were unconscious. Because, as you say, if left to their own decisions the Decepticons would never have bothered with disguises.

 

I like to think that some militia guy was a big fan of The Man From Uncle, and that is what's Teletraan One scanned.

 

I'm used to Megatron being a tank by this point. It makes sense and gives his bfg somewhere to go in altmode.

That said, I love his cybertronian Jet modes from TLK and Prime. About the only good thing TLK did was that design.

 

IDW Stealth Bomber, far and away.

Yeah yeah yeah, he's got a giant glowing M in his forehead. Don't care. That design is so frigging cool looking!

 

I can't really pick a favorite here. I think I lean toward crazy sci-fi space jet in the same vein of Super Megatron as far a vehicle modes go, though I think Animated's Osprey-styled mode works well too. If he's gonna have a vehicle mode I really think it should be able to fly, considering that in some versions of the fiction, flight is generally a Decepticon trait.

However, I do think there's some symbolic power in the idea of a genocidal maniac taking the form of a tool that's sole function is to kill, even if that stifles his mobility. It works for how batshit Marvel Megatron could get.

 

I want a triple changing Megatron that goes from jet to tank.

You can find him on eBay for very cheap, people seem to want the Siege one more, with the fat proportions and weird tank.

 

Hell yeah! I got the TR version on clearance a while back at Target. He's awesome. I don't even own the Siege version...too chunky for my tastes. TR Megs is my primary CHUG Megs at this point.

 

Gun then tank.
