I miss the comic book store I used to go to in St. Louis called Comic Headquarters. The owner was the coolest and he actually remembered the names of his regulars, and on Wednesdays, you could usually get into a conversation about books with the other customers. When I moved to Oregon, there was one comic store, but the owner wasn't as friendly and she couldn't ever get my orders right, so I cancelled my orders and switched to digital.

My 'local' comic shop (Yendor, Rotterdam) is pretty good. The building is big and open, the interior is light. Oh, and the people working there are friendly! I don't always find what I'm looking for, but they have a very broad offering of American, Japanese and European comics. Prices seem a bit high but I gladly pay a bit more - but I don't really buy much anymore since I dropped most of what I was reading after they went shit (was big into Marvel's Ultimate line, now I just read Transformers stuff which I buy digitally)

I actually hate hate hate the stereotypical comic shop, at least the ones stereotypical over here: old, musty, run by kind of creepy old men. Some people swear by these kind of shops but they just piss me off.

I'm curious, by the way, anyone a regular at Midtown Comics, New York, or Allstar Comics, Melbourne (AUS)? Visited both and really dug those. The one in Melbourne was funny since it was located on an apartment floor only accessible through an elevator.

    Ok bye!

Mine is about a 13 minute drive from my house. They just changed locations the old place was on main street and it was really small barely any room but over the summer they moved about a mile away to a lot nicer and bigger place. Sometimes there will be everything i am looking for a hows the latest issues then there are times when there is a huge gap between issues. I don't know why that happens but then other places i get comics are Barnes an Nobles and Toys R Us.

Comics (Basically all new probably nothing before 2005 at least for the Batman comics)

Some collectible stuff like DC and Marvel figures as well as Star Wars that kind of stuff

    Graphic Novels

My own store (I Want More Comics) that I frequent isn't terribly far. It's about 15-20 mins away give or take. The guys who own the place are really friendly and know their stuff. Plus they have the hold slot system so I'm able to get what I want. A nice little perk is that they'll pull additional titles that might tie in or interest you as well just in case you forget to add it.

I don't actually know any regulars at Midtown but people I know do go there enough. They have the same experience i do every time I go to NYC. I go there and always feel like I'm at my local shop. Everyone has always been really cool and helpful each time.

Define local. Like how much travel time is the cutoff? As I live in the suburbs. And have to go into the city proper to find a comic shop. But there's 4 in the regional municipality I live in. 3 are within walking distance of each other on the Halifax Peninsula, long walks for sure, but 20 minutes max. Those are Quantum Frontier, Monster comic lounge, and Strange Adventures (which was featured in an issue of Superman in the 90's as one of the clerks won an essay contest). The fourth is across the Harbour in Dartmouth, Giant Robot Comics. The one I patronize the most is Giant robot comics. As they deal in used action figures the most. And grab sealed figure lots from Ebay and such. I got a universe 1 Jihaxus from them at a local con last year.

Most of the time, I pick up my comics at Galaxy Comics (formerly Mutant Mania III many years ago). Bonus, since it's right next to my local movie theater.

However, if I'm in the city after work or need to pick up a title that may not be stocked/sold out at my local store (rarely, TF, but other stuff e.g. Ghostbusters), then it's Midtown comics (either Times Square, on occasion, Downtown). It's a nice distraction after visiting Times Square TRU to look for any new TFs.

I'm in the suburbs of Rochester, NY. I can think of 4 off the top of my head in the area.

-There is one that opened in the city a year or two ago, I've only been in there once. Smaller, nice atmosphere. I'm Pretty sure it's still open.

-Empire Comics had a city and suburban location run by 2 brothers. I used to frequent the suburban location as a kid. I found out recently that in the last couple years both brothers have died early from disease. I don't believe the stores reopened. They weren't the greatest, but they were decent sized operations.

-Comics etc. has a city location and has been my lcs for almost the last 10 years. Good owner and staff. Good size store with lots of other stuff besides comics. You can have a pull list with as many or few comics as you want. They offer a discount. They seem to do pretty well for a comic store.

I had two comic stores fairly close to me, one very close to campus, but one closed and the other one is only open at night..7pm-9pm...which I usually don't back downtown, so I don't get in there much at all anymore.
I really miss going in there tho...seeing gazillions of comics in one place, figures, posters, etc.
Mostly tho, I buy the TPB and get them online.

Yes, Comic Town in Columbus sucks. Do yourself a favor, and check out The Laughing Ogre. Gib and crew run one of the best shops in the country, and it's where comic pros will hang out when they're in town. They used to do a party during mid-Ohio con where you could just come and hang out with folks like Jeff Smith, Brian Michael Bendis in his early days, and a few others, but no autographs. If you ask, you're kicked out.

As for me now, I go to Coliseum of Comics (The Downtown Lakeland store), but my comic buying is now limited to Powers and Astro City.

We used to have Atomic here and they were great, then some idiot let a kid that was not insured drive their Van and he crashed it through a Store Window and they were liable, led to them going under. Now all we have are shitty shops.

One thing about San Diego is that there are plenty of Comic Shops here. It's the home of IDW and the largest comic/pop culture convention in the US. Sadly my go to comic shop closed down a few years ago. The Comic Gallery. It was the last man standing when it came to old school comic shops from the 80s. Now they're a eBay retailer.

An LCS is an alien concept over here, unless you live within easy reach of a branch of Forbidden Planet or one of the tiny handful of independent comic shops. I have to make a monthly trip to Middlesbrough on an afternoon off to get all my comics.

How is someone driving through their store window make them liable? Wow.

There's three LCS that I go to. My main one is The Great Escape Superstore in West Nashville. It's right by the Community College I attend and has a big selection of backissues. It's not totally a "Comic Shop" per se as they focus a lot of records and DVDs, too, but they have great discounts on comics and related merchandise (10% for everybody, 25% for books in your pull list) and pay pretty decent prices for any DVDs/records/comics at trade in. One of the other stores I go to is a smaller Great Escape branch in Madison. Same deal, just much smaller.

The third is a small place called Rick's Comic City. It's more of a typical LCS like I had at home in Cleveland.

My local shop is this place called Comic Cellar. It's in Alhambra, on Main Street (I know, cliché). The guy there is usually fun to talk to, but it sucks when he's sick: an attendant is there who doesn't know crap about IDW comics.

When I'm in Pasadena, I go to Comic Factory. Quiet place, but it's got variety (such as manga, a bunch of anime, and a restricted area for...you know...). I don't go there often, but it's a place I also rely on.

Silly question maybe....same store that runs the website TFAW.com?
    I've ordered from there before.

My LCS, which is about 8min from my house, is Rick's Comic City in a suburb of Nashville, TN.

I run my own comic shop, a little place we call Now & Then. We've been serving North Iowa since 1991. While things have changed over the years, we've managed to change as well to keep ourselves open and helpful to our customers.

We carry more trades/manga than back issues these days on the comic side of the shop, but we have a great selection of toys and games as well so that helps keep the bills paid. I also keep a large selection of Transformers in stock, both old and new as well as loose and MIP.
