So, this word "troll" gets thrown around quite a bit and everyone seems to use it a little differently. It appears to have (incorrectly) become more of a description of any post or poster that a person doesn't like.

What's your definition of a troll?

I think it generally refers to two possible scenarios:

1: Someone who posts infalmatory comments solely for the purpose of inciting heated/insulting arguments.

B: Someone who is constantly targeting and attacking another board user personnally.

Just getting into a heated debate with someone doesn't count as trolling unless it devolves into personal attacks or unless one person keeps deliberately following and arguing with the same person intentionally.

 

Sounds right to me.

Yeah, a person that doesn't even care about the discussion at hand. They just get off on stirring up shit and watching everyone's reactions. The more you get pissed off, the more they love it, and thus why they will always come back for more.

If they're just trolling one person, then that kinda turns into online stalking. Also not cool.

Someone who goes out of their way to start fights, insults people and are rude as all hell. they very seldom have any redeeming moments, I tend to put them on ignore asap, they're shit-stirrers on steroids.

These are pretty good definitions that I can agree with. Those kind of people go on my ignore list as well, so at least I don't have to deal with them personally.

There are polite ways to voice your thoughts and opinions without putting others down in the process, it's just not necessary. I'm not fond of people who go out of there way to just start fights with people for no reason, or people who are excessively rude for no reason.

I'm not going to name names or single anyone out, but those negative kind of people do exist on this forum, but they exist everywhere on the internet. Just ignoring them is usually the best strategy, trying to argue or debate with them is pointless.
