your Combiner Wars gestalts: original G1 team-members only or not?

  1. Yes. Gotta be G1 team-members only.

    44.8%
  2. Nope. Satisfied with the new members lineup and not changing it.

    48.3%
  3. Not Yet. (still trying to be G1-complete)

    Just curious.

I was gonna ask this in the CW Appreciation thread, but I reckon a poll will be nicer.

Of course, I'm only talking about the CW/UW gestalts that existed in the G1-verse, so Victorion/Megatronia et al are pretty much excluded from this polling.

However, the G2-versions of your CW/UW gestalts are included.

    So, have at it!

    Case-by-case

    Aerialbots - Slingshot
    Protectobots - Rook
    Stunticons - Wildrider/Brake-Neck
    Combaticons - Jet-off
Optimus, Sky Lynx, Cyclonus - never bothered with combining
    Victorion - sure, why not.
    Computron - We'll see.

G1 only. No new guys, period. New combiner teams? I'm okay with them. But for the OG combiners it's either pure G1 or nothing.

Yep, gotta agree with this. My Unite Warriors Bruticus finally showed up last week. I'm glad I went that route as I have with all the other combiners cuz not having them be G1 don't make much sense for me. Had really nice paint apps, I was impressed.

None of the above. I like the new members and the OG ones, and I'm also a fan of non-traditional configurations for my Combiners.

Superion: Alpha Bravo, Slingshot, Skydive, Aird Raid. Fireflight in robot mode.
Mensaor: Off Road, Dragstrip, Dead End, Breakdown. Wildrider in robot mode.
Defensor: Deluxe Groove, Rook, Streetwise, Blades. First Aid in robot mode on my MTMTE shelf.

UW Bruticus uses all his OG members, although I used to have jet Blast Off before I sold my CW Bruticus to fund the UW version.
And Computron also kind of obviously uses the original line-up.

    Also none of the above.

I keep Superion in G1 formation only because a helicopter on a jet team is just absurd to my way of thinking. Alpha Bravo could not even keep up with the rest of the team when traveling, for heaven's sake.

On the other hand, I prefer Rook as a limb on Defensor over and above Groove - and I like CW deluxe Groove as a standalone 'bot too well to leave him on display as a limb.

Bruticus is just Bruticus - I know of no other formation than G1 formation, although I was first introduced to the original molds via Robots in Disguise 2001. I am perfectly fine with Blast Off being a jet rather than some variation on a space shuttle.

Menasor I could take or leave any which way. I am not that impressed with the CW version and have no history with the character(s) separate or combined. Using the old car dude instead of the new truck dude does let you accomplish a certain degree of symmetry in combined mode, however.

Sky Lynx, the Primes, Cyclonus - obviously no G1 versions. However, I don't used the Hasbro-suggested combinations either - I just use what looks good to me.

Devastator and Victorion are obviously their own dedicated crews.

I'm happy with Alpha Bravo on Superion. He's a cool figure and looks great as a leg or an arm. That and since I waited more than 30 seconds after his release, I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting Slingshot anyway. The only other Combiner I have is Bruticus and I like the change in alt mode for Blast Off. The jet makes more sense to me.

In CW I have only collected the G1 teams with the new legends class sixth members. I do have legends Groove and Rook though for Defensor. I also have Skylynx, but no limb-bots just for him.

Mix and match works for me:
I was never into Off Road, so I prefer using Breakneck.
I dislike Groove as a limb/pegleg, so Rook looks a lot better combined.
Blast Off (jet) looks a lot better than the shuttle, figure wise, so I stuck with him.
I like Alpha Bravo as an individual more than a leg, so I use Slingshot as a limb.

Superion (CW): Slingshot instead of Alpha Bravo. Wasn't a huge fan of a helicopter as part of a jet team.

Menasor (CW): I like Wildrider, but I would have been fine with Off-road if I wasn't able to get him.

Defensor (UW): Rook as a leg and Groove as the chestplate. I was never a fan of Groove as a giant motorcycle.

Bruticus (UW): 4 rotors for Vortex and Space shuttle Blast Off.

    Computron (UW): Hurry up BBTS!

I didn't mind any of the new combiner limbs at all, although having their G1 counterparts are a nice option. I personally like what I call "G1 inspired" new characters and wish we saw more.

G1 all the way. Never got Offroad and I only have UW Defensor, so no Rook either. Using AB for a makeshift Wrecker combiner with Thunderclash, Impactor, Bluestreak, and Trailbreaker since I got AB before Slingshot was announced. But I'll admit, he looks good as a Superion arm (and an arm in general).

I wish there was an option for full on mix and match. I only had random members of combiner teams as a kid, and so I have a hodgepodge combiner now too. Hotspot, alpha-bravo, rook, firstaid, G2 deadend, and Japanese adventure Override as the chest armor.

Same here. My Aerialbots, Combaticons and Protectobots are all in their G1 configurations but I don't mind adding in Alpha Bravo and Rook to the Autobot teams.

For my display it's with the original G1 characters. But Rook, Alpha Bravo, Offroad and Hasbro Blast Off are still on the shelf with them. In my personal head fiction it makes sense to have an extra guy on the team in case one of the other limbs are injured so they can jump in and fill the spot of needed.

I'm fine with including new members and mix-matching. Galvatronus commands the extras.
