I figured the movie franchise would continue, with or without Bay, so long as it remained profitable. I was a little surprised he returned, I guess.

I was only even a little surprised because he was so vocal about how "done" he was... but I guess money talks.

I figure that Paramount and Micheal Bay will ride the film franchise until they ride it into the ground. Micheal Bay has said he's leaving or he's not coming back before so I just can't put any faith in those claims anymore.

I did initially think that Dark of the Moon would be the last in the series, as it ended in a very conclusive way that doesn't leave a lot of room for expansion. I wasn't expecting it to become the fifth (formerly fourth) highest grossing film of all time, because the amount of bile and hatred for Revenge of the Fallen and endless speculation about how much better the reboot would be (it was never A reboot, it was always THE reboot...) on internet discussion forums led me to believe less people would see Dark of the Moon due to Revenge of the Fallen's critical backlash. I'm surprised that they're actually going ahead with Transformers 4, but I don't know whether to be happy or upset, and I don't know whether I should see it when it's out or save my money for Guardians of the Galaxy.

Domestically Transformers did see a drop between Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon of $50 million even with the 3D surcharges.

Internationally the films gained ground bumping up the international take of Dark of the Moon up over the Revenge of the Fallen take by $337 million.

So if it was just the US and Canada then maybe we would have seen the franchise sit for a bit or even go with a reboot. But Paramount seems to be banking on pulling in another huge international haul with part 4. Even the GI Joe movie was bumped for 3D because it seems to be such a strong international draw right now to have a huge action film in 3D.

I expect them to continue as long as they still take in AT LEAST $700 million per movie. But I'm sure the next few will make over a billion like DOTM.

I was expecting a longer lull between storms than the one we got that's for sure. Let the franchise re-establish itself in television animation a bit more with TF: Prime and other content.

I'm with Gordon; I figured more movies may come out with DOTM's success, just not so quickly.

6 of them will feature Bay, the sixth film will have Unicron and will most likely feature the death of Bumblebee and Optimus Prime. The 7th movie will be a reboot at which point noone will watch it due to fans either liking Bayformers more or by just loosing interest due to Michael Bay's run of Transformers (which will span between 10-20 years by my count)

    Transformers; 2007
    Transformers ROTF;2009
    Transformers DOTM;2011
    Transformers 4; 2014
    Transformers 5: 2016
    Transformers 6; Late 2018 - Early 2019
    Transformers Reboot; 2023

I was expecting more. I was just hoping we'd get a talented director this time.

With the success of DOTM, I knew Bay would be doing more films. There's too much that can be done with the franchise and way too much money to be made. What is a bit shocking to me is that the second trilogy is going to see a complete recast. I was at least hoping to see Lennox, Epps and Morshower return.

I was expecting a fourth Transformers movie. I was just hoping it wouldn't be a fourth BayFormers movie.

    Agreed.

Pretty much. I would've thought they would pull an Amazing Spider-Man.
