Visually they don't look all that bad. Hopefully the characterization of them doesn't ruin the movie. I'll probably go see it. I remember watching Yogi Bear and Scooby Doo as a child with my father. The live-action Scooby Doo movies turned out watchable, so hopefully this one does too.
That's actually not all that bad. Super corny, but with something like this, it's to be expected. As odd as it is, having Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo really works. Honestly, if I hadn't known it was him, I wouldn't have recognized the voice. If anything, he's doing just a little better at Boo Boo than Dan Aykroyd is doing at Yogi.
No, it just looks faithful. And only by the standards of what we got. I'm sure they'll discard whatever made it work in the first place without realising. Remember that Rocky and Bullwinkle movie, or some of those horrible live action Looney Tunes? It'll be like any of these movies. They'll look superficially like the originals, say all the catchphrases, and they'll miss the point entirely.
Yogi Bear is one of those iconic cartoon characters. It's like "Oh yeah, that bear that trys to steal the pic-a-nic baskets! I remember him!" Not as iconic as a Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck, but iconic in a Saturday morning cartoon type of way. If the source material wasn't popular he wouldn't have that status. As for the teaser, yes....it's corny, BUT I support Justin Timberlake as BooBoo. Just from the clips they show he does a damn good impression. Very surprising. As for Aykroyd doing Yogi, it sounds like he gave him a slight Rodney Dangerfield sound to him.
Yes, he's iconic, but the fact is, Hanna-Barbera did NOT aspire to the same standards of quality that MGM, Warner Brothers, Flesischer or Disney did during the golden age. There's a reason cartoons entered a dark age in the 60's, and that's because H-B pioneered cost cutting in animation. True, Yogi's one of their better shows, but their cartoons tend not to hold up as well with age compared to the works of Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Bob CLampet, the original Disney team, or even Hanna and Barbera's works while they were at MGM, such as Tom and Jerry. Just sayin' this from an animation fan's perspective, though.
Yeah, Timberlake sounds really good as BooBoo, IMO. Actually, he may be the only good thing about this movie.
