"More than 30 percent of adults in Mississippi are considered it obese, according to a 2007 study by the Trust for America’s Health, a research group that focuses on disease prevention." Wow...
Nice... I am all for personal accountability and but this is flat out discrimination. Sure these people are fat, but this type of actions condones discrimination of other races, genders, and against sexual orientation...
Hi nanny state, whats next? I have to sit in the dark every evening for 2 hours to prevent "global warming"?
To avoid voter retribution, the bill's author, Republican Rep. John Read, has also introduced a bill halving the size of state voting booths.
Yep. That is probably next. However, 30% is a lot but it is the norm in the south. Our diet plays a huge part in that. You also have to realize the south is a lot poorer on a per capita bases than the rest of the country, and quick, greasy food is much cheaper than healthy foods; funny because you would think fruits and vegetables would play a much larger part in our diets due to the amount of farming we do. Unfortunately, when you are at or below the poverty line, a meal made with fat, grease, and carbs is easier and cheaper than your healthy stuff. Hell, it is cheaper to eat at Mcdonalds for a family of four than to by groceries in some cases.
Stupid. I'm not obese, but even I know this is not the way to fix things. Think of it, obese people are discriminated, then they get depressed about being discrimated for their weight, eat more because they're depressed, and then get even more obese. Not fuckin' rocket-science.
