Did anybody watch the first XFL games? I caught some of the first one between Seattle and Washington DC. Everybody is mic'ed up, Can hear the coach sending instructions to the Quarterback. No extra point point with field goal, just conversions. and can get 1, 2 or 3 points for those depending on where the conversion is attempted from Play seemed more open than the NFL
I watched them. I like it quite a bit so far. The rule changes were actually really fun to watch. They kept the game at a fast pace, there were no egregious officiating errors, and the extra point attempts are an interesting wrinkle. I’ll be following the New York Guardians at this point because they have former Penn State QB Matt McGloin on the team. The Roughnecks were fun to watch yesterday though. June Jones is a great offensive coach, and I’m surprised he hasn’t had bigger opportunities up to this point. He coached at Hawaii when Colt Brennan threw 57 TD passes in a single season. That was an NCAA record until Joe Burrow broke it 3 weeks ago. The Hamilton Tiger Cats were the best team in the CFL the last few years he was there.
I really don't see this lasting more than one season. I wouldn't be surprised if it folds before the end of the the first one like the AAF did.
This game is pretty one sided, Trestman is a defensive Headcoach and this should be more geared toward offense. Losing by 20 points, just go for it, running game isnt working, passing game is not much better but should still go for it
Huh. So I'm not 100% clear about the XFL rules n stuff, but watching the game highlights on YouTube....this does look pretty interesting. Right off the bat I noticed that the kick offs are done differently than the NFL (and I don't mind it actually...it looks like it makes the game more fun in some ways), and the extra point(s) after a touchdown are also done differently. Instead of kicking it, they can run it in. And depending on how far out, it's either 1, 2, or 3 points if they get into the endzone again??? Man...I gotta say those two things alone looks like it could set up for some very interesting games I have to echo @Kamijou Touma in that I might start liking this more than the NFL
Glad to hear people like it. I want to get into it, but the chances me heading to Metlife Stadium in the winter is pretty much a no go for me at my age. I've heard only good things to so far.
This. Bottom line: This is not the NFL, but an inferior product. It's players who didn't have the talent or weren't fortunate enough to make it to the pros, so this is a lower tier of competition. Sure, some of the rules and quirks are interesting, but during the middle to the end of the season when the luster wears off, I see people becoming disinterested and tuning out just like the first time around because the competition level is not up to snuff. There's a reason that the other football leagues (USFL, Arena, etc.) didn't experience great success.
The USFL was doing okay until a certain team owner, who now holds High political office forced them to switch from playing in spring to i playing in the fall to go head to head with the NFL. The man wanted to buy an NFL team, but the NFL said no. Just might be the smartest move they ever made. That said in this day and an age unless a new league will willing to absorb years of big losses to complete with the NFL before they become profitable they just are not going to be successful. In today's age of investors wanting fast turn around on investments that just not gonna happen.
XFL lays off all employees, suspends operations - ProFootballTalk No more XFL. I actually liked watching it too.
