Go through the reviews from the previous page.

A few of them mention that you are forced to take on missions not giving enough time in between to freely explore or give enough time within the mission to grind or freely explore.

 

The only missions that they state you get locked "into" is the affinity missions. If you've played the original xenoblade, you would know that you can go explore and do stuff before going on with any story missions. Also the gam explain guys literally ran all the way to the last continent. Hell, it's more open world than most open world games.

 

I think what I misinterpreted was the line " It's unfortunate, however, that you can't organically weave your way from one chapter to the next."

 

Ahh. That one means you can't just rush through the story. Story missions will have requirements that need to be met first.

 

Gamexplains playthrough said you don't start a story mission unless you want to. In fact they did a 2 hour livestream of just running around the hub and grinding fighting monsters.

unfortunately gs probably would if they thought they could get away with it.

 

I picked up the strategy guide when I picked up my Special Edition this morning.

Finally getting to play this. Got to wait for the update first.

Easily a contender for goty and it just feels like it will be overlooked by the masses because, well, wii u.

I play it. just got a few hours in so far, Went with the commando route and just did some exploration so far and planting beacons. But man when you are belov lv 10 and all alone in the big world those monsters eat you up. Just like it should be  

I tryed to attack one of those flying creatures that you need to do in a early quest. Should not have done so all alone lol.

 

I plan on getting it. Asked for it for Christmas.

 

Yeah it does a good job reminding you of where you shouldn't be by killing you. It's actually pretty handy before you get the nav ball.

Even after you get the nav ball that thing can still go bonkers sometimes and lead you into death traps.

Only thing I really dislike atm is all the spam once you get in a party with all these L+A memes. Its really fucking annoying. If you don't know L+A favorites a post so everyone and their grandma is trying to get you to press L+A together so they can have their .05 second of fame.

I have the game and have played it for a couple hours so far. It's pretty good so far minus the mostly terrible music. Granted I'm not too far in but the battle music is one of my least favourite I've heard in a jrpg and both tracks for the first town are equally as bad.

The game play itself is good so far and I'm looking forward to getting further into it. The world and enemy design is very well done and exploration is fun and worthwhile. At this stage in Xenoblade Chronicles I enjoyed the first game more but there's still so much more to go in XCX that I'm sure in the end it will be a great game.

 

What? But it's Hiroyuki Sawano, the same guy who composed Kill La Kill and Attack on Titan's soundtracks.

 

I love the soundtrack. I know a lot of folks are taking a huge dump on it, but I find it eclectic and fun.

Okay, the text isn't that bad anymore, I've gotten used to it. The major problem I still have is the volume balance between the music and voices especially in cutscenes and there are no volume sliders in the option menu.
