Unless Microsoft does some major backpedaling on these dealbreakers, I'm skipping this console.

Same, I'll probably stay with the 360 until the second Destiny game, then join the PS4, sounding a lot better with every X1 update.

I don't think I've ever had this much fun reading about a new console.

IMHO, MS will continue as planned. They have a strong enough fanbase that sill continue to support them.

Most of the shit Ex-Fun does is already on smartphones. I heard you can actually connect your smartphone to your TV and stream Netflix or some other stuff. Also, at least the PS4 has games. You know, the reason why we buy the console.

I'm a bit confused, is he talking about just the XBox One, or all "next-gen" consoles? First paragraph is about all of them, but the second one sounds like the XBox One --and just the XBox One-- can somehow more than triple console sales. I get that these are total, several years worth of sales and not opening day figures, but still absurdly optimistic. Seems clear they fully expect to imitate the Wii's success in grabbing more than just "gamers"; seeing how the Wii U's doing, probably not the best idea...

Interesting they expect the 360 to keep selling for another 5 years, and to sell another 20+ million units at that.

    This made me face palm burst out laughing and shake my head wearily ;

The Xbox-One's rights management system uses a heart beat sensor function to count the number of people in a room and will stop the movie and ask for more money if there's to many people in the room.

Oh dear isn't that like against peoples Human rights - like right to a private life and a Family life or something like that ?

Not to mention it's a bit silly to say you can't play a movie rental unless you have the camera on you too.

I think they got the number wrong it's Xbox-1984 not Xbox-1 (sigh).

Darth Vader "Most Impressive" /Darth Vader.

I have strongly supported the Xbox360 for many years, I put up with the self destructing machines as they offered me no requirement to install games unlike some PS3 Games, and lower prices - I was happy.

Then it started slowly to go a bit sour. I didn't have any fun playing any of the recent Halo games even anniversary seemed a bit 'knocked together' like a PC game with a texture patch and some horrible lighting. Halo4 was dreadful, Gears of War 3 was like it was written by someone who'd never played the previous games and they lost interest part way through making it. the total number of game releases dipped a lot - sure I had some fun Arkham City was rather good... but I saw the start of a downwards trend.

Then I notice there's actually starting to be some Ps3 exclusives that look like they might be worth playing. but I still wasn't to concerned.

But now I feel I've gone from concerned to "Er No thanks" I'm not buying what your selling every single thing you've just announced either holds no interest to me and just increases the cost of the machine needlessly or it's frankly a bit "Creepy". like the NSA had made a games console.

So joking about Sony doing a happy dance might not be quite as mad as it might first seem - but frankly it's Sony so I doubt they will be able to resist getting the pricing hopelessly wrong. So anyway with me Microsoft is now in the Dog House with no supper and Sony gets to sleep at the foot of the bed.. but I'm not quite ready to let them sleep on top of the bed yet or get their muddy paws on the couch.

(I think a dog is a suitable metaphor for a media company in so many ways).

Funny ol' world and bye bye no doubt to many peoples decade long brand loyalty to Microsoft.

The biggest problem with the draconian rights management is that the competition isn't doing this. If everyone was doing it, people would have no choice. As it is, they do, and the choice should be to reject it. Accepting it will just make it seem ok for the rest to do the same thing, and that's bad news.

That's kind of what I am worried about. I just want a game console and at the moment it sounds like PS4 will be that, but then again it's hard to believe that Sony won't jump on board with similar tactics soon or once they see MS making a profit. Especially since Kotaku has explained that used game retailers will have to have special software to allow you to trade in games that will give publishers part of the money for a used sale. (and at the same time, unregister your traded in game from you harddrive, which is why it has to check in every 24 hours- to make sure you aren't playing a game you traded in) That makes me think that Sony will HAVE to follow suit since developers and publishers will like the used game kickback. I am all for getting the developers some money on those preowned sales, rather then gamestop getting all that profit, but the more simple solution is to just require the disc to play physical retail purchases and have them no way reliant on an internet connection.

"I have to put my game IN my console to play it? This sucks!"

Welcome to the Second Video Game Crash everyone!

See you at the pawn shops buying old games when systems were ABOUT games and fun and not 'Big Brother' watching you and 'Gimme mo money!' to pay games or even watch movies.

Seriously, everyone I've talked to I know that likes playing video games I've told about the XBOX 'NO FUN' has pretty much decided they won't be touching the system and will either get a PS4, a Wii U, or both of them.

I'm not 100% that they will do exactly that. I mean, all the surveillance in the xbone and the way it handles used games doesn't seem like it would be super legal in every European country. Since MS is now mostly abandoning Europe, that means that Sony and Nintendo can sell consoles that don't actively hate you unchallenged there while they also sell them in the US.

I was under the impression that the previous xboxes weren't overly popular in Japan so this one is certainly not going to break the trend.

Bolding this because I thought it was bullshit but then I just saw some articles confirming that this kind of technology is in the system. Holy fucking wow... This might piss people off for shitting on their choices, but whoever buys into this system is an asshole, and is to blame for any shitty DRM future that we end up getting as a result. This system has to fail, and if you buy one you are the problem in the technology/entertainment industry. If you buy a console, buy a competitor's system, you have 2 to choose from.

    Just wow. That is insane.

I think that buying an xbone is a bad idea but the people who do so aren't the problem. Microsoft is the problem. The goals that they must have as a result of being a company are the problem. Everything they do is simply a product of the priorities that arise inevitably from the current global economic system, as fully intended by its creators. That is the problem.
